Greenery: PANTONE 2017 Color of the Year Home Design Ideas

Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year is here – and in 2017, it will be very easy being green. Greenery is a reflection of the neutrals, earth tones and natural colors that have dominated color trends as of late. In fact, Pantone goes so far as to call Greenery (15-0343) “Nature’s Neutral” in their official 2017 Color of the Year announcement.

Home designers, fashion designers and graphic designers alike turn to PANTONE, the world’s foremost authority on color, color identity and color matching, to establish future trends and baselines for their work. The announcement of Greenery as the Pantone 2017 Color of the Year re-affirms the trend towards natural, refreshing color palettes in home design, graphic design and spring fashion.

Greenery is more towards the “yellow side” of green – think more Kermit, less Green Arrow – and evokes a fresh, invigorating sense of the outdoors. Greenery is found more in light green grass and sunlit floral leaves than in dense foliage, adding a sunny, optimistic touch to the natural relaxing quality of green.

Appropriately enough, Greenery is also a palette match with multiple Pantone colors and shades our blog has suggested to you over the last several months. Colors in past Design Your Lifestyle articles that are listed as harmonious with Greenery by Pantone include: Serenity, Bodacious, Buttercream, Goji Berry, Sharkskin, and Moss.

Of course, leaning on trends only takes you so far in design. Finding the perfect blend between today’s trends and classic, timeless design elements is the key to design excellence. Few home designers know this better than Peter Salerno Inc., winners of more kitchen and bath design awards than any North American design firm since 2002.

Courtesy of Peter Salerno Inc., here are a few tips to incorporate Greenery (the Pantone 2017 Color of the Year) into your kitchen or bath design project.

Greenery: Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year in Home Design

1. Utilize ACTUAL Greenery!

Need we say more? The trend towards natural, earth-based design should include natural green elements! Use real greenery in your home designs! Incorporate fresh floral sprays, vegetables, leafy arrangements and ferns in your kitchen and bath designs.

Take a look at the two nationally-recognized Peter Salerno Inc. kitchen designs below and think of your own ways to incorporate Greenery into your kitchen!

2. Greenery pairs beautifully with core design neutrals.

We’ve talked so much about core design neutrals over the last few months, and Pantone’s decision to name Greenery its 2017 Color of the Year reaffirms our faith in taupes, browns, whites and grays as “statement” neutrals.

Don’t necessarily think of Greenery as the “it” color in your design. When executed properly (as in the Peter Salerno Inc. bath design below), green can augment the core whites and earth tones in your design.

3. Find fresh accessories in which to include Greenery!

In the kitchen design below, Peter Salerno and his team “greened” a unique design element – the overhead, recessed stained glass roof. The result was a dimmed-yet-natural glass lighting feature that added a fresh, sedated tone to the kitchen.
