September 8, 2017 is Stand Up To Cancer Day
The second Friday of September is Stand Up To Cancer Day, a day where we honor those affected by cancer. This year, Stand Up To Cancer Day falls on Friday, September 8, 2017.
According to the American Cancer Society, 50% of men and 33% of women will suffer from cancer in their lifetimes. That’s a staggering figure, and one which we must face – but one which we do not have to accept as fact for the future. It’s also a percentage that virtually guarantees each of us will be touched by cancer in some way – either personally or through the experience of a friend, acquaintance or loved one.

2017 marks the 11th anniversary of Stand Up To Cancer Day, which was first observed in 2007. The organization Stand Up To Cancer is determined to fight, cure and eradicate all forms of cancer through fundraising, awareness and community support.
From the official Stand Up To Cancer Mission Statement:
Stand Up To Cancer’s (SU2C) mission is to raise funds to accelerate the pace of groundbreaking translational research that can get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now.
SU2C brings together the best and the brightest researchers and mandates collaboration among the cancer community. By galvanizing the entertainment industry, SU2C has set out to generate awareness, educate the public on cancer prevention and help more people diagnosed with cancer become long-term survivors.
Cancer may seem like an indomitable foe, but if each of us takes on a small amount of effort, the results can be incredible. Peter Salerno (the owner/founder of our parent company, Peter Salerno Inc.) takes part in the annual Lavallette Breast Cancer Walk, a New Jersey-based walk to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research.

It’s a small gesture and a small commitment of time and energy, but walking for cancer awareness (and research funding) makes a world of difference. If each of us took the time to walk, donate, fund research, offer support to those fighting cancer and their families, or simply inspire those around us to join the fight, think of the massive steps we could make as a world community in the fight against cancer!
The most direct way to take part in Stand Up To Cancer Day is to make a donation and use the hashtag #StandUpToCancerDay on social media. It’s a simple and effective combination that will ensure you are raising money and awareness to combat cancer.
Stand up. Take part. Join the fight. Together, we can take steps to Stand Up To Cancer and make this disease a thing of the past. Thank you!
