All Green Everything | A Pantone-Inspired Guide to Green Tones in 2019 Design

Green is not going anywhere.

Green design is less of a ‘trend’ and more of a movement. The cultural shift towards ‘green design’ began with environmentally conscious ideals and eco-friendly materials, in an effort to create more sustainable living spaces without sacrificing quality.

But as with any shift in design focus, the movement towards ‘green design’ spread past its original boundaries. Over the last 24 months, the phrase ‘going green’ not only applies to sustainable home design – it applies to home design color palettes as well.

Two full years after Greenery was named Pantone 2017 Color of the Year, green tones still permeate the color design landscape (and seasonal Pantone color palettes). Evoking natural imagery, pairing beautifully with indoor plants, and providing a generally strong complement to neutral, brown and white tones, green has gone from a home design afterthought to a first choice for many kitchen and bath designers.

The variety of green tones selected by Pantone over the last 2 years is rich. Deep greens like Terrarium Moss and Kale are adjacent to brown neutrals. Blue-green shades like Arcadia and Quetzal Green are almost oceanic, with an emerald-sapphire jewel tone. Pepper Stem and Greenery are classic shades of green that provide balance to fresh design palettes. (And if you’re living on the wild side, there’s always a tone like Lime Punch for you!)

Which green shades are right for your kitchen design or bath design? Which fit well into the overall color palettes presented by Pantone over the last five seasonal design collections?

Here are the green tones presented in Pantone’s seasonal color collections from Spring 2017 through Spring 2019.
