Why Should You Choose a Custom Range Hood For Your Kitchen?
You’re ready to create or update the custom kitchen design of your dreams. Working with the very best kitchen designers (like 30-time national award winner Peter Salerno Inc.), you’ve settled on the finest luxury appliances, the perfect counter surface and backsplash, statement lighting, and a gorgeous kitchen island.
But what will you do to take your dream kitchen to the next level? What will make your kitchen the one-of-a-kind custom creation that will truly make it the envy of your guests?
Experts like Peter Salerno, CMKBD, agree that a custom range hood for your cooktop and range is the perfect statement piece to adorn any truly unique kitchen design.
“The hood and refrigerator are key elements in creating the ultimate kitchen,” Peter Salerno Inc. notes. “We have our own designs custom-made to our exact specifications so each of our clients has one-of-a-kind pieces, made right here in New Jersey.”
A custom range hood, when created masterfully, reflects the taste and personal style of the kitchen’s owner while adding a tone of elegance and unique backstory to your kitchen.
Imagine being able to tell your family, friends and guests that your range hood is made from reclaimed tin collected from classic gas stations along Route 66. Think about the elegant, opulent story your kitchen will tell if your range hood is custom-made from materials taken from a speakeasy once owned by Al Capone or an historic jazz club in New Orleans.
Your kitchen can tell these stories with its very own custom range hood, designed exclusively for you by Peter Salerno Inc. and its network of master craftsmen and artisans. Working with its own staff of skilled artisans, as well as industry leaders and innovators like Rangecraft, Peter Salerno Inc. will create a state-of-the-art, unique range hood for your kitchen that is both fully functional and truly one-of-a-kind.

Your choice of kitchen appliances is highly subjective, of course. For our money, the best rotisserie on the market today is the La Cornue Flamberge Rotisserie.
The Flamberge Rotisserie by La Cornue is as effective physically as it is stunning artistically. A French Blue edition of the Flamberge is present in the main display at the award-winning Peter Salerno Inc. flagship design showroom in Wyckoff, New Jersey – and it’s so wonderful, the staff can’t help but use it sometimes (see video above).
The Flamberge Rotisserie is powered by a 27,000 BTU gas burner, yet requires no special ventilation methods and needs only a 120-volt power supply. La Cornue utilizes its trademark vaulted design in the Flamberge’s concave rear walls, which is covered with synthetic wicks to draw up radiant heat without the flame ever touching your food.
An overview, directly from La Cornue’s official website:
A real jewel of technology, the Flamberge Centenaire roasts all meats, poultry, fish and whole fruits perfectly.
With a new, streamlined yet spectacular design, and a reliable, simplified mechanism, the Flamberge optimises the circulation of heat flow.
Both easy to fit because it has no particular ventilation constraints and practical, the Flamberge is a magnetic attraction in any kitchen, immediately arousing a desire to use it.
La Cornue designed special cabinet to accommodate “The Flamberge rotisserie” which will also offer you additional storage.
We at Design Your Lifestyle have been lovers of the La Cornue brand for years. An excerpt from a past article:
Ever since Albert Dupuy invented the first La Cornue oven over a century ago, the company has stood at the forefront of cooking design, craftsmanship and innovation. As such, La Cornue has developed a reputation as one of its industry’s leaders, and one of the world’s most luxurious brand names in the world of kitchen design.
Peter Salerno Inc. is proud to not only offer La Cornue’s outstanding line of cooking range products, but to display four La Cornue pieces in our beautiful showroom – a CornuFé range, a CornuFé 1908, a Flamberge Rotisserie, and an absolutely stunning Château range. Much of our partnership with La Cornue is thanks to the tireless work of our business ally and friend Craig Kmiecik, the East Coast Territory Manager for La Cornue at Purcell Murray Company. For over 30 years, Purcell Murray has personified culinary passion and provided the most exquisite brands of appliances, including La Cornue ovens.

Two years ago, Miele and Peter Salerno Inc. partnered on what would become one of the foremost Miele transitional kitchen displays in the world.
On Wednesday, November 4, 2015, Peter Salerno Inc., Miele, and some of the finest representatives of the custom kitchen design, appliance and hardware industries came together to celebrate the exclusive unveiling of this spectacular new transitional kitchen showroom vignette.
The new transitional kitchen vignette was not only a showcase of Peter Salerno Inc.’s award-winning transitional kitchen design efforts, but of the state-of-the-art Miele kitchen appliance line.
Miele USA was represented by Miele USA VP of Sales Bob Fava, National Director of A&D Research Group Paul McCormack, NY Metro Regional Sales Manager Dan Gallagher, and Princeton Miele Culinary Events Manager Mary Moulds.
The centerpiece of the new transitional kitchen display is a stunning kitchen island, topped with a beautiful counter designed by Galaxy Glass. The thick glass slab is embedded with stainless steel mesh for a gorgeous, clean transitional design feel, and allows the user to opt between a soft white light or color wheel display option.
The kitchen island affords comfortable seating for three on one side and is adorned by statement globe lighting which hangs from the recessed ceiling. The recessed ceiling itself is a beautiful 9-panel design painstakingly decorated with silver leaf, and features seamless custom edge moulding.
The base of the island is an ivory white custom piece by Peter Salerno Inc., featuring the astounding Knock2Open Miele Dishwasher. Simply knock, and the dishwasher automatically opens for you – no fussy latches or slamming doors! The base also includes custom cabinetry work from Peter Salerno Inc.’s Maestro Rosolino line.
The flooring is a beautiful, durable faux-wood concrete which was voted on by you, the readers of Peter Salerno Inc.’s official blog. Wonderful job!
The backsplash, provided by the world-class artists at Stratta, the Tile Boutique, was also voted on by readers of this blog. A seamless design that appears to be one solid pre-fab piece, it is actually comprised of over 250 meticulously set tiles.
The Feature Wall
In front of the backsplash, 4 glass shelves are mounted in front of LED lighting, which presents the illusion of pure white light streaming from within the shelves. A bold stainless steel range hood design was custom-designed by Peter Salerno Inc. and crafted especially for this transitional kitchen display by the artisans at Rangecraft.
The custom ivory white Maestro Rosolino cabinetry features over a dozen drawers. 6 drawers are push-to-open (to complement the Knock2Open Miele Dishwasher), with 2 more “hidden drawers” which border the Miele range in the form of moulding columns.
The Miele 48″ range and cooktop itself is a wonder of modern technology. It features a conventional range, warming drawer and storage unit, as well as a 6-burner cooktop. The range features a wireless roast probe which communicates directly with the oven. For example, if you want to cook a tenderloin to an internal temperature of 135 degrees Fahrenheit, simply turn on the oven and set the roast probe to 135. When the internal temperature of the tenderloin reaches the desired temperature, the oven will automatically shut off and alert the user that the roast is ready!
From bread to roasts, sear to bake, the Miele oven features hundreds of customizable settings to suit the needs of every chef, from amateur to professional. The 48″ Miele range also features a built-in speed oven which eliminates the need for a microwave.
The feature wall also includes a new Miele coffee maker that must be experienced to be believed! Below the coffee maker is a combination steam oven which allows user to stack cooking programs and save cooking recipes beforehand, where the user can seamlessly go in and out of cooking and steam functions or even use those functions in conjunction with each other. The combination steam oven also allows user to control the percentage of steam from 0-100% which is unique to Miele.
Each of the Miele appliances showcased in this transitional kitchen design vignette is constructed with the same look and feel- from the construction and materials to the display and functionality. Every detail is methodically crafted to provide a seamless user experience.
Watch Peter Salerno Create Custom Kitchen Designs With Steel
If you want a kitchen that’s going to stand out without going the traditional routes, then watch this short video and see how Peter Salerno (and Peter Salerno Inc.) can make your kitchen really stand out with stainless steel!
In this video, Peter gives you an exclusive sneak peek inside his Wyckoff, NJ design studio and his production/manufacturing workshop, including private footage of his stainless steel design techniques.
Over the last decade, Peter Salerno Inc. has won more North American kitchen and bath design awards than any other design firm, from such prestigious organizations as the NKBA and Signature Kitchens & Baths. Part of Peter’s award-winning kitchen approach is the courage and vision to use bold, beautiful materials in all his kitchen designs, not just one “stock idea” that works well.
“When I’m meeting with a client and taking a look at the kitchen, I’m trying to find something that’s different and unique about it,” Peter Salerno says in this stainless steel design video. “Sometimes I see a situation where stainless [steel] is the perfect product to use.”
“You add a different material, the shine, the finish – something that’s very unique.”
Indeed, stainless steel isn’t limited to just kitchen appliances in an award-winning Peter Salerno Inc. custom kitchen design. Along with Peter’s acclaimed custom reclaimed tin range hood designs, stainless steel can be incorporated as an integral material in his kitchen designs.
Stainless steel was a vital design element in Peter Salerno’s 2012 1st place Best Overall Kitchen winner through the NKBA, as pictured above.

The combination of classical and contemporary speaks directly to the three generations of family artisans that comprise the Salerno legacy. Peter Salerno’s father, Rosolino, was a master craftsman and cabinetmaker trained in Sicily. He passed his love of fine craftsmanship on to his son, and Peter’s artistic vision coupled with his father’s “old world” training created a design dynasty.
Peter Salerno’s idea behind the Tesoro ™ Collection is simple: classic, beautiful design can be timeless, but functionality of that design needs to remain current. By crafting luxurious traditional kitchen designs around aesthetically beautiful and modern appliances, the Tesoro ™ Collection from Peter Salerno Inc. is something to behold.
Many Tesoro ™ Collection kitchen designs offer custom designed and created hoods made of reclaimed tin ceilings from around the world. Not only does Peter Salerno create a new life from recycled materials, but each pattern comes with a backstory. Some of his patterns have been taken from gas stations on Rt 66, cafes and jazz clubs in New Orleans, and speakeasies owned by Al Capone. These hoods are truly unique and are only available through Peter Salerno Inc.

Appliances With Matte Finishes Dominate 2017 Home Design
Home design trend spotters, thought leaders and award-winning professionals agree that 2017 is a year for bold advances in home design trends. From jewel tones to fresh natural colors, cerused wood finishes to sharp detail angles, 2017 is a year for the audacious and luxurious designer.
And yet, in this sea of daring design choices, the greatest home design trend of 2017 may be the exact opposite. The move towards appliances with matte finishes is not only sudden, it’s nearly a unanimous choice among industry leaders.
Why would such a sedate, unassuming trend in appliances be such a hit in such a daring home design climate? It makes all the sense in the world for several reasons:
The core function of appliances is to be useful, not to be artistic show pieces. As such, appliances can take a design “back seat” to the primary focus points of your home design. After all, if everything in your home stands out – does anything really catch your eye?
Accenting our first point – the “show” in a great appliance is what it can do. It really doesn’t matter whether a world-class range has a polished finish or a matte finish, as long as it can do incredible and innovative things. So why not let the function of the appliance do the talking, and let other facets of your design be audacious?
By utilizing a matte finish on a well-crafted appliance, it forces the observer to see the appliance for its construction. Home design insiders, like the team at House Beautiful, note that a simple, clean matte finish on an appliance allows “the form of the object to speak for itself”.
Peter Salerno noticed this trend towards matte appliances at the KBIS 2017 conference in Orlando. (And when the owner of the most award-winning custom kitchen and bath design company of the 21st century in North America takes notice, you’re on to something!)
The world’s leading appliance makers and innovators are certainly all trending towards matte finishes on their appliances, and the market is quickly catching up to the trend. But what do YOU think about this trend towards matte appliances? Leave a comment and let us know!
