Design Flashback | Best Bath Design Award Winner, 2014

Design Flashback | Best Bath Design Award Winner, 2014

During the spring of 2020, we’re taking some time to look back at our favorite designs of the last decade. One such design was honored by Signature Kitchens & Baths Magazine as the top bathroom design of 2014.

Created by our parent company Peter Salerno Inc. (the most award-winning custom kitchen and bath design firm since 2001), this French-inspired design lives in a gorgeous home in Princeton, New Jersey. Drawing inspiration from his trips to Vence and Picardie in the French countryside, Peter Salerno set a luxurious tone in this bathroom with clean neutrals, distinct lines and a stunning ceiling.

Enjoy these exclusive photos of the 2014 Best Bath Design, along with original article content!

Original article content:

Peter Salerno Inc. is experiencing a humbling and rewarding 2014 interior design awards season. First, we were honored with NKBA’s 2014 Best Small Kitchen award, as well as a Top 10 People’s Choice Award from HGTV for the same kitchen design.

Now, Peter Salerno and his team have been honored by Signature Kitchens & Baths Magazine with their prestigious 2014 1st Place, Best Bath Design award. Frequent readers of this blog will remember this stunning bathroom design from Princeton, New Jersey, created from the inspirations Peter took from a visit to the French countryside.

As was mentioned in the previous article about this gorgeous French-inspired bathroom, Peter Salerno and his team drew from various aspects of classic and contemporary French design. The light painted cabinetry was inspired by the Picardie region of France. Peter also chose the tile to reflect the kitchen’s custom stonework (a staple of design in Vence).

A look to the other region of the bathroom shows a beautiful porcelain tub set between two large windows – once again, to accentuate the copious amount of natural light this home’s location provides. A walk-in shower sits inside the far wall, and fresh linens await the user at every turn. Lastly, the brass fixtures and mounts reflect French design from the Oise region.

Peter Salerno and the entire team at Peter Salerno Inc. in Wyckoff, NJ, are greatly appreciative of this 1st Place, Best Bath award from Signature Kitchens & Baths Magazine – and even more appreciative of the fantastic homeowners who get to enjoy this award-winning bathroom every day!

Best of KBIS 2020 | Your Guide To This Year’s KBIS Awards + Trends

Best of KBIS 2020 | Your Guide To This Year’s KBIS Awards + Trends

If you didn’t attend KBIS 2020, you missed out on a tremendous celebration of kitchen and bath design, innovation and technology. But you’ve stumbled upon this article, which means you’re about to get the next best thing!

The NKBA presents KBIS 2020: the Kitchen and Bath Industry Showcase from Las Vegas.

The kitchen and bath design industry is still buzzing from this year’s KBIS in Las Vegas, Nevada. Each year, the NKBA’s Kitchen & Bath Industry Showcase (KBIS) shatters expectations – and attendance records – for the kitchen and bath design industry, raising the bar of ingenuity, inventiveness and innovation to new heights.

KBIS brings together world-class design innovation, an unparalleled floor of exhibitors, tremendous entertainment and seminars with kitchen and bath design experts. 2020 was no exception, as the NKBA brought together a stellar array of designers, ideas and products to guide the kitchen and bath industry into a new decade.

From the Best of KBIS 2020 Awards to the KBISNeXT Stage to the vast exhibitor floor of the convention itself, KBIS 2020 offered more information and innovation than one person could take in alone. So let’s focus on the bullet points: what are the key takeaways from KBIS 2020?

We’ve pulled out a short list of notable award winners and trends from this year’s KBIS event – enjoy!

Key Trends + Awards From KBIS 2020

1. U By Moen Smart Faucet Wins KBIS 2020 Smart Home Technology Award

Innovation is at its finest when it’s just one step ahead of the user, offering smart and usable solutions that make practical sense in daily life. The U by Moen Smart Faucet achieves this balance, staying ahead of the curve while not “outsmarting the consumer”. Easy to use and full of invention, it’s a wonderful choice for the KBIS 2020 Smart Home Technology Award.

From the KBIS 2020 “Best of KBIS” page:

U by Moen Smart Faucet provides convenience, precision and intuitive technology to conquer daily kitchen challenges. It’s the only voice-activated faucet on the commercial market to dispense water amounts as small as one tbsp and as large as 15 gal. at a specific temp. Users can ask Amazon or Google voice assistants to start/stop water flow, activate presets and perform specific tasks like fractional measurements, temp –precise (90°) or generic (hot)– and combined requests (1 cup of 90° water).

2. hansgrohe Rainfinity Wins KBIS 2020 Impact Award

Extravagance. Relaxation. Fine design. Rainfinity by hansgrohe is an absolute marvel of bath design; a shower experience that manages to feel high-end. A massive overhead shower coupled with versatile hand shower, multiple jet types, Rainsoft micro-droplet technology, all presented in a sleek, transitional design?

All of the above, please. Rainfinity is a revolution in luxurious shower design and experience.

3. Kitchen Trend Alert: Black Appliances Gaining Popularity

If you can’t believe that black kitchen appliances are trending, think about the bigger picture. In a kitchen bathed in white – white backsplash tile, white cabinetry, etc. – black appliances immediately stand out as sleek and transitional. Black also pairs well with neutral tones and stone surfaces.

Black stainless steel appliances have been penetrating the market more heavily since the mid 2010s, but 2020 is when a larger percentage of buyers (and designers) will take the plunge.

4. Gold Fixtures in Kitchen and Bath Design

Metal is still in, and we noticed a lot of gold fixtures and features in outstanding kitchen and bath designs at KBIS 2020. From pulls to drawers to range knobs and handles, the opulence of a gold finish on these “flourishes” adds a real sense of luxury to kitchen and bath design in 2020.

Would you try gold metal for your kitchen and bath fixtures?

5. KBIS 2021 Takes Place Feb. 9-11, 2021, in Orlando, Florida.

This is all. See you there!

Creative Home Design: Graffiti In Your House? Yes!

Be Bold: Use Graffiti In Your Home Design!

No, we haven’t gone off the deep end. Sometimes, the best designs come from “outside the box”.

After all, if the most award-winning kitchen and bath designer in North America utilizes graffiti in their showroom’s main bathroom design, then it’s something we all can consider!

Visitors to the flagship showroom of Peter Salerno Inc. at 511 Goffle Road in Wyckoff, New Jersey, are stunned by many things – the world-class showroom display being chief among them (winner of the 2015 KBIS Innovative Showroom Award). But when clients and guests to the Peter Salerno Inc. showroom step into the main showroom bathroom, they’re often shocked and inspired by what they see.

Peter Salerno hired a professional graffiti artist to create a bold, vibrant cityscape in the bathroom design. From a replica manhole cover in the center of the floor to colorful depictions of a metropolitan skyline and an elevated subway line, the artwork is audacious and vivid. The inside of the bathroom door is even “tagged” with notable initials, names and dates important to Peter Salerno, his family, and the Peter Salerno Inc. legacy.

Watch “Graffiti: The Need to Be Creative” from Peter Salerno Inc. here:

Summer 2016 design trends (as we’ve discussed in past articles) are all about blending bright, inviting colors with personal style. The blend of bold and splashy colors with personalized touches in this graffiti design are directly in line with cutting-edge home design style.

Graffiti and other urban mural motifs are a fantastic choice for city dwellers, as well as those born and raised in urban areas who want to pay homage to their personal history. If graffiti isn’t your “thing”, per say, then look beyond the artwork and take a lesson from the artist’s approach.

It’s important to respect your personal legacy and style while incorporating new elements into your home design, especially in frequently traveled areas like the kitchen and bath. Rich colors can still be comfortable and inviting when coupled with design elements that mean something to you.

Expert, award-winning custom kitchen and bath designers like Peter Salerno Inc. value the personal story of every client, weaving it into their personalized home designs. You owe it to yourself to consider that aspect of your personal style when undertaking any new design project. After all, unique personalization is the difference between a house and a home.
