Key Trends + Awards From KBIS 2020

1. U By Moen Smart Faucet Wins KBIS 2020 Smart Home Technology Award

Innovation is at its finest when it’s just one step ahead of the user, offering smart and usable solutions that make practical sense in daily life. The U by Moen Smart Faucet achieves this balance, staying ahead of the curve while not “outsmarting the consumer”. Easy to use and full of invention, it’s a wonderful choice for the KBIS 2020 Smart Home Technology Award.

From the KBIS 2020 “Best of KBIS” page:

U by Moen Smart Faucet provides convenience, precision and intuitive technology to conquer daily kitchen challenges. It’s the only voice-activated faucet on the commercial market to dispense water amounts as small as one tbsp and as large as 15 gal. at a specific temp. Users can ask Amazon or Google voice assistants to start/stop water flow, activate presets and perform specific tasks like fractional measurements, temp –precise (90°) or generic (hot)– and combined requests (1 cup of 90° water).

2. hansgrohe Rainfinity Wins KBIS 2020 Impact Award

Extravagance. Relaxation. Fine design. Rainfinity by hansgrohe is an absolute marvel of bath design; a shower experience that manages to feel high-end. A massive overhead shower coupled with versatile hand shower, multiple jet types, Rainsoft micro-droplet technology, all presented in a sleek, transitional design?

All of the above, please. Rainfinity is a revolution in luxurious shower design and experience.

3. Kitchen Trend Alert: Black Appliances Gaining Popularity

If you can’t believe that black kitchen appliances are trending, think about the bigger picture. In a kitchen bathed in white – white backsplash tile, white cabinetry, etc. – black appliances immediately stand out as sleek and transitional. Black also pairs well with neutral tones and stone surfaces.

Black stainless steel appliances have been penetrating the market more heavily since the mid 2010s, but 2020 is when a larger percentage of buyers (and designers) will take the plunge.

4. Gold Fixtures in Kitchen and Bath Design

Metal is still in, and we noticed a lot of gold fixtures and features in outstanding kitchen and bath designs at KBIS 2020. From pulls to drawers to range knobs and handles, the opulence of a gold finish on these “flourishes” adds a real sense of luxury to kitchen and bath design in 2020.

Would you try gold metal for your kitchen and bath fixtures?

5. KBIS 2021 Takes Place Feb. 9-11, 2021, in Orlando, Florida.

This is all. See you there!

Winter 2018 Color Design Trend | Black, Gold + Off-White Dazzle

Winter 2018 Color Design Trend | Black, Gold + Off-White Dazzle

The combination of black, gold, and off-white is a stunner, and it’s all the rage this Winter 2018-19 design season.

And why not? The timeless sturdiness of black, the dazzling punch of gold, and the trendy neutral off-white are the perfect blend of transitional and timeless. Used to proper effect, this color combination can make its way from a seasonal trend to a lasting color design scheme in your home.

The luxurious, crisp combination of these 3 colors is often associated with New Year’s celebrations – so why not apply them to your entire winter color design scheme by extension?

The wonderful thing about the combination of black, gold and off-white tones is how relative they are with the trend towards neutral and white tones in kitchen and bath design. With bases in black, taupe/beige (gold tones) and off-white, this color palette covers virtually all your neutral tone bases, while still creating plenty of visual interest.

We’ve selected two sample Pantone color palettes for this Winter 2018-19 color design trend, then broken down the six Pantone colors separately with their Pantone reference codes for easy identification.

Which palette do you prefer? Do you prefer classy and demure, or bold and glossy?

The 5 Perfect Pantone Colors For Halloween Decor

Decorate Your Halloween With These Pantone Colors!

Halloween is one of the most creative holidays of the year. Costumes, lights, fun food and drink, delicious treats, and themed parties make every October 31st a day (and night) to remember!

Everywhere you turn, Halloween ideas abound. From cocktails to party food, favors to costume design, it seems every blog you read is rich with fresh and fun Halloween tricks and treats (sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves!).

But what about color design? Let’s face it – while “Orange Is The New Black” is a smash hit on TV, orange and black aren’t always the easiest colors with which to design. Sure, black is classic, but mixing it with other fall colors (especially orange) can lead to clashes and awkward juxtaposition.

So how do you create a fresh Halloween design without using the “same old same old” orange and black motif? Using Pantone, the world’s leader color design experts, we’ve come up with a list of “bewitching” color schemes and options to bring a lively new look to your Halloween decor this year.

Whether you want a fresh shade of orange, a vibrant darker hue, or a beguiling new tone or two, here’s our list of festive, fun Halloween colors to use for your next Halloween party design.

Our Pantone Picks For Halloween Party Colors

1. Sharkskin (Pantone 17-3914)

Sharkskin - Pantone Fall 2016 color report

Why not start our Halloween 2016 color design list with one of Pantone’s official colors for Fall 2016? Sharkskin adds a sense of luster and sheen to gray, making it far more alluring than the average gray neutral.

Sharkskin is the perfect “base” color for your Halloween design and decor. You get the natural “spooky” appeal of a neutral gray, while adding a touch of playfulness. Try Sharkskin as a paint scheme, in your Halloween accessories (throws, pillows, etc.), or on your table decor!

2. Harvest Pumpkin (Pantone 16-1260)

Harvest Pumpkin Pantone color, Halloween party colors

It’s a spicy shade of orange-brown with the perfect autumn name for your Halloween festivities. Harvest Pumpkin is an inviting fall shade, full of warm and familiarity. If your Halloween party is less “trick” and more “treat”, guests will feel right at home in your Harvest Pumpkin decor.

The added benefit to incorporating Harvest Pumpkin in your Halloween decor is that it transitions seamlessly into the late fall holiday season. It’s a natural for Thanksgiving decor, and pairs well with kitchen and living space designs that focus heavily on neutrals, earth tones and hardwood flooring.

3. Purple Potion (Pantone 19-2430)

Purple Potion Pantone color, Halloween party colors

It’s the perfect purple for the witch or warlock hosting this year’s Halloween festivities (and stirring that spooky punch bowl)! Purple Potion is a stunning shade of purple that instantly evokes thoughts of fall sangrias, red wines, and a little Halloween mischief.

Speaking of which – if red wine sangria is on the menu (or a cocktail featuring Chambord), Purple Potion is a must-have Pantone color in your Halloween design this year. It’s also a great choice for accents to your white design elements (walls, furniture, etc.) as a throw, pillow or wall art piece.

4. Tangerine Tango (Pantone 17-1463)

Tangerine Tango Pantone Color of the Year 2014, Halloween party colors

It’s a reddish orange so alive and bold, it was Pantone’s 2014 Color of the Year. Tangerine Tango is the perfect blend of blood orange and festive bright red, sure to leave partygoers struck by its appeal.

If you want your guests to be dazzled by your Halloween party attire, try a little Tangerine Tango in your wardrobe! This sizzling hot color also works great in your Fall 2016 home decor as well, adding a splash of jazzy color to the taupes, grays and neutrals in your living space and home design. Go ahead, give Tangerine Tango a whirl!

5. Poison Green (Pantone 16-6444)
