Using reclaimed tin in kitchen designs: just one way Peter Salerno Inc. creates the custom range hood of your dreams.

But what will you do to take your dream kitchen to the next level? What will make your kitchen the one-of-a-kind custom creation that will truly make it the envy of your guests?

Experts like Peter Salerno, CMKBD, agree that a custom range hood for your cooktop and range is the perfect statement piece to adorn any truly unique kitchen design.

“The hood and refrigerator are key elements in creating the ultimate kitchen,” Peter Salerno Inc. notes. “We have our own designs custom-made to our exact specifications so each of our clients has one-of-a-kind pieces, made right here in New Jersey.”

A custom range hood, when created masterfully, reflects the taste and personal style of the kitchen’s owner while adding a tone of elegance and unique backstory to your kitchen.

Imagine being able to tell your family, friends and guests that your range hood is made from reclaimed tin collected from classic gas stations along Route 66. Think about the elegant, opulent story your kitchen will tell if your range hood is custom-made from materials taken from a speakeasy once owned by Al Capone or an historic jazz club in New Orleans.

Your kitchen can tell these stories with its very own custom range hood, designed exclusively for you by Peter Salerno Inc. and its network of master craftsmen and artisans. Working with its own staff of skilled artisans, as well as industry leaders and innovators like Rangecraft, Peter Salerno Inc. will create a state-of-the-art, unique range hood for your kitchen that is both fully functional and truly one-of-a-kind.

We love great kitchen design. Which is why we love RangeCraft Hoods.

The range hood for your kitchen’s cooking area is one of the most overlooked elements in most kitchen designs. Instead of seeing it as just a ‘necessary piece of hardware’, why not treat it as an appliance you can customize to your own unique kitchen design and taste?

We love RangeCraft’s adventurous spirit in terms of tackling any and all challenges. Recently, RangeCraft designed a custom range hood that ended up in a world-class kitchen in Moscow, in a design created by award-winning Peter Salerno Inc., also of New Jersey.

RangeCraft’s partnerships don’t simply extend to world-class kitchen designers. In 2016, they cemented an exclusive agreement with Swarovski Crystal to build even further luxury and greater options to their custom range hood designs.

The function of a range hood is essential to keeping a clean, safe kitchen for you and your loved ones. RangeCraft marries that function with exquisite form to turn a simple appliance into a work of art. It’s no wonder that so many award-winning kitchen designers around the United States (and the world) turn to Ramona Panus and her team for range hood solutions.

Peter Salerno’s Custom Tin Range Hoods: The Process

Peter Salerno’s Custom Tin Range Hoods: The Process

One of Peter Salerno’s signature design elements is his use of reclaimed tin from historic locations to create stunning custom range hoods and ceiling pieces in his award-winning kitchen designs. But how does this world-class designer take a raw material that’s seemingly headed from the scrap heap, and transform it into a luxurious statement piece?

Peter Salerno Inc. custom kitchen designs have utilized reclaimed tin in a myriad of ways. From majestic soffit designs to custom refrigerator doors to custom cabinetry, Peter and his team have shown their love for (and mastery of) reclaimed tin in design. But perhaps the hallmark of Peter Salerno’s tin kitchen design features is his custom tin range hoods.

You can see the reclaimed tin from Route 66 used to create the custom La Cornue range hood and Swarovski crystal studded recessed tin ceiling in the Peter Salerno Inc. showroom in Wyckoff, NJ. Reclaimed tin from a hotel in Chicago was used in the “Jewel Box” kitchen, named 2014 Best Small Kitchen by NKBA and a People’s Choice Kitchen for 2014 by HGTV.

Walking through the creation process of Peter Salerno’s custom tin range hoods and recessed ceilings truly awe-inspiring. Peter knows the background of every piece of reclaimed tin that he works with – whether it’s a gas station on Route 66, or a hotel in Chicago, or a reclaimed tin roof.

Peter and his staff of artisans take great pride in turning the everyday into the extraordinary, and there is much to be said for taking a piece of tin once considered “scrap” and turning it into personalized treasure in your very own award-winning kitchen.

Custom range hoods are our favorite way to make your kitchen design special. A singular range hood immediately separates your kitchen from the pack, turning a beautiful design into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

For years, our parent company (Peter Salerno Inc.) has worked with RangeCraft, a custom range hood manufacturer that designs “jewelry for the kitchen”.

“A top quality range hood is an essential part of a well-designed high-end kitchen because it will help to protect your cabinetry, flooring, countertops and appliances. RangeCraft Range Hoods are truly a functional work of design art,” explains Ramona Panus, President of RangeCraft. “Walking down an aisle in any appliance showroom, most range hoods on the wall look all the same…how boring!”

We couldn’t agree more with Ramona on all fronts.

Much like Peter Salerno’s ability to make soffits spectacular, RangeCraft has perfected the art of fusing function and beauty. Modern kitchen design isn’t strictly about providing luxury or about world-class functionality. The best kitchen designers (and their design elements) must be able to provide both to their clients.

It’s not enough to have beautiful social media photos, and RangeCraft knows this. Their custom-built range hoods are equipped with extremely quiet fans, bright halogen bulbs, and precise attention to form. Only after their technical prowess has been applied does the beautification process being – exquisite detail, first-class materials and design specs that fit each individual client’s kitchen.

This isn’t all a big ‘fluff piece’. This is simply what we believe the standard ought to be for every kitchen designer and manufacturer in today’s market.

We’ve selected some of our favorite collaborations between Peter Salerno Inc. and RangeCraft, which provide us with constant kitchen design inspiration. We’d love to know which ones you love best!

Must-See New Kitchen Design Photos + Custom Wood Range Hood

Must-See New Kitchen Design Photos + Custom Wood Range Hood

Wood textures are back in play in kitchen design, and we’re here for all of it.

This exquisite kitchen design installation comes courtesy of Peter Salerno Inc., the most award-winning North American kitchen and bath design firm of the 21st century. Headlined by a textured walnut custom range hood, this understated kitchen blends transitional design with vintage wood features to wonderful effect.

Feature wood elements in kitchen design is nothing new to Peter Salerno Inc. in 2019; the firm left us in awe earlier this year with a kitchen that showcased reclaimed exposed wooden beams from a New York City orphanage. This time, a finely honed walnut range hood is the centerpiece of a quaint, luxurious kitchen.

The kitchen design revolves around three wood tones: the light walnut of the range hood, the dark wood base of the kitchen island, and the rich golden-brown of the flooring. These natural hues provide a foundation for the rest of the kitchen design, particularly the custom Maestro Rosolino cabinetry, hand-crafted in painted white wood.

Maestro Rosolino cabinetry is utilized in several ways. The drawers and kitchen facing are solid white wood. The cabinetry itself is also painted white, with beautiful glass featurettes atop each cabinet to offer a peek inside (as well as reflection for the ambient light from the two large picture windows on each side of the range hood).

The kitchen island countertop is a lighter shade than the counter space on either side of the range, providing a balance between the light and dark shades of wood (light counter with dark wood on the island, dark counter to complement the custom walnut range hood).

As evidenced by these photos (courtesy of Peter Salerno Inc.’s official Instagram account), the installation isn’t quite complete (notice the packing boxes in the last post). We’re so excited to see what Peter Salerno and his team have in store for the finishing touches of this beautiful kitchen. What backsplash will be installed? What furniture will adorn the dining area, underneath the beautiful rectangular statement lighting fixture? And what (if any) window treatments will grace the large picture windows in this design space?

Let it be known: neutral and natural kitchen design does not mean ‘boring’.

Peter Salerno Inc.‘s recent Instagram posts prove that point to dramatic effect. These kitchen design photos feature what can be done with a home’s second kitchen to make a neutrally-based design pop with dramatic design elements and intriguing materials.

The defining feature of this kitchen design is the arched ceiling, with intricate exposed brick blending beautifully into the large stone backsplash on the kitchen’s feature wall. The simple neutral color of the brick and stone surfaces allow other areas of the kitchen to stand out; the gorgeous arc of the ceiling is dramatic enough by itself. The exposed brick extends down the side wall of the kitchen down to the countertops.

The simple, transitional angles on the custom range hood complement the ceiling’s arc nicely. The accompanying stainless steel kitchen appliances echo the finish of the custom range hood and add a touch of modernity to the brick and stone around them.

The countertops seem simple at first; upon closer inspection, they are finely crafted concrete wood form tops. The finished countertops provide both the rustic feel of weathered wood and the durability of concrete.

The neutral grays and whites of the brick, stone and concrete surfaces allow the simplicity of beautiful butternut cabinetry to shine in this kitchen design. The glass fronts of the warm cabinetry provide a look inside for easy access, as well as copious reflective surfaces for the ambient light coming from the large picture window on the refrigerator wall.

Peter Salerno mentions in the above post that a second kitchen should provide “only the necessities you need”. There are no opulent features, no exorbitant appliances, and generally no frills in this kitchen design. As stated above, this kitchen design is proof that luxury is not always defined by “bells and whistles”. A straightforward approach with an eye on form, function and intriguing design materials can create an understated, beautiful result.
