On the left is Peter Salerno – master designer, CMKBD, and founder of Peter Salerno Inc. (the most-awarded designer by NKBA since 2003). On the right is Peter’s son Anthony Salerno, the third generation of Salernos to join the custom design craft in the United States.

In the center is Rosolino Salerno, Peter’s father and the man who “started it all” for Peter Salerno Inc. “Ross”, as he is affectionately known, is the patriarch of the Salerno family and a master craftsman in his own right. His name is the inspiration for Peter Salerno’s “Mastro Rosolino” cabinet line.

This photo means the world to Peter and Anthony, as Rosolino passed away after this photo was taken. The Maestro’s signature craftsmanship, care and eye for design is reflected in every piece Peter Salerno and his team produce.

Lest we forget the kitchen! It is a one-of-a-kind Peter Salerno Inc. original custom-designed kitchen. The Saddle River, New Jersey kitchen features custom handcrafted tin range hood, custom ceiling with mirror inlays, custom cabinetry created by Peter Salerno Inc., a custom-crafted island and backsplash tile design.

Thanksgiving | Using Gratitude as Design Inspiration

Thanksgiving | Using Gratitude as Design Inspiration

There’s nothing more beautiful than gratitude.

The spirit generated by Thanksgiving is such an inspiration for us at Design Your Lifestyle. It’s a design outlook fostered by our parent company, Peter Salerno Inc, – their focus on “personalized luxury” is rooted in gratitude in two ways.

The first is peter’s gratitude to his clients – for their trust, their business & their openness. “the creative process starts and ends with the client,” Peter explains. “Our design has to reflect their lives and what is important to them.”

It’s that attitude which informs Peter’s second commitment to gratitude in design – personalization through passion. It’s that way of thinking that motivates Peter to take “the deep dives” into clients’ lives & turn individual details into one-of-a-kind design elements. From birthday month flowers painted & carved into custom cabinetry to family emblems and monograms incorporated into design elements, it’s personalized luxury that turns ordinary into extraordinary design,

Gratitude extends outward from clients to community. Honor for the great architecture, culture & history only serves to strengthen Peter Salerno’s commitment to gratitude as a design inspiration. Reverence for classic American construction leads Peter to salvage tin from Route 66. Honor for his father’s Sicilian craftsmanship informs the Maestro Rosolino line of cabinetry. the desire to keep elements of classic architecture alive brought wooden beams from NYC’s St. Patrick’s Orphanage into a stellar transitional kitchen design earlier this year.

This Thanksgiving, how will YOU turn gratitude into inspiration? What are you thankful for, and how will those things inform your design choices in the future? We would love to hear from you in the comments section below. Happy Thanksgiving!

Kitchen Range Hood Design Inspiration | Find a Photo You Love

Kitchen Range Hood Design Inspiration | Find a Photo You Love

Custom range hoods are our favorite way to make your kitchen design special. A singular range hood immediately separates your kitchen from the pack, turning a beautiful design into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

For years, our parent company (Peter Salerno Inc.) has worked with RangeCraft, a custom range hood manufacturer that designs “jewelry for the kitchen”.

“A top quality range hood is an essential part of a well-designed high-end kitchen because it will help to protect your cabinetry, flooring, countertops and appliances. RangeCraft Range Hoods are truly a functional work of design art,” explains Ramona Panus, President of RangeCraft. “Walking down an aisle in any appliance showroom, most range hoods on the wall look all the same…how boring!”

We couldn’t agree more with Ramona on all fronts.

Much like Peter Salerno’s ability to make soffits spectacular, RangeCraft has perfected the art of fusing function and beauty. Modern kitchen design isn’t strictly about providing luxury or about world-class functionality. The best kitchen designers (and their design elements) must be able to provide both to their clients.

It’s not enough to have beautiful social media photos, and RangeCraft knows this. Their custom-built range hoods are equipped with extremely quiet fans, bright halogen bulbs, and precise attention to form. Only after their technical prowess has been applied does the beautification process being – exquisite detail, first-class materials and design specs that fit each individual client’s kitchen.

This isn’t all a big ‘fluff piece’. This is simply what we believe the standard ought to be for every kitchen designer and manufacturer in today’s market.

We’ve selected some of our favorite collaborations between Peter Salerno Inc. and RangeCraft, which provide us with constant kitchen design inspiration. We’d love to know which ones you love best!

‘Where Does Inspiration Come From?’: A Sequel to Acclaimed Miele Presentation

Peter Salerno, North America’s most award-winning custom kitchen and bath designer since 2002, will present “Where Does Inspiration Come From?” at the KBIS 2019 Voices from the Industry Conference. It will be a follow-up seminar to Peter’s acclaimed presentation of the same name, conducted at Miele’s Experience Center in Princeton, New Jersey in 2018.

Peter Salerno (center), at his NKBA presentation at Miele USA in Princeton, NJ, April 2018.

As outlined in previous articles, the Kitchen & Bath Industry Showcase (KBIS) is North America’s largest annual trade show, with over 31,000 attendees, 600 exhibitors, and 400 members of the press. Presented by the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA), KBIS 2019 is dedicated to the kitchen and bath design industry.

Education is at the forefront of what makes KBIS 2019 a superior trade show and conference. Much of that educational focus lies in the Voices From the Industry Conference. After a successful presentation at the Miele Princeton Experience Center (on behalf of the NKBA), Peter Salerno was asked to reprise it at this year’s Voices From the Industry Conference in Las Vegas.

Where Does Inspiration Come From?” revolves around pulling inspiration from the world around us – both natural and architectural/technological – and how to convert that ‘library of thoughts’ into design inspiration and application.

Peter’s original presentation was accompanied by visual examples of his design inspirations, followed by each inspiration’s final creation. One of the more stunning examples shown during the keynote speech was that of seagulls drifting through the ocean air, and how Peter Salerno turned that image into a stunning kitchen design innovation – embedded LED animation of seagulls over crashing waves, displayed in a kitchen island countertop.

KBIS 2019 will be held February 19-21, 2019, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Peter Salerno’s “Where Does Inspiration Come From?” joins an incredible, world-class slate of presentations at this year’s VFTI Conference (some of which we have covered). From personalized luxury to synesthesia, design inspiration to smart technology in design, the 2019 edition of the Voices From the Industry Conference may be the best to date.

All White Design: A Winter Bath Design Ideabook

All White Design: A Winter Bath Design Ideabook

All year, the Design Your Lifestyle team has trumpeted the arrival of “statement neutrals” – using neutral tones as primary color elements in your home, kitchen and bath design. With the winter season right around the corner, we turn your attention to the most basic (and wintery) of neutrals – white!

The freshness of pure white and off-white neutrals cannot be ignored. A crisp white finish to your home bath design provides an immediate “pop” of class and distinction, and will never go out of style. Combine these white design features with a well-designed amount of ambient light, and you have a brilliant finish to the statement bath design of your dreams!

The team at Peter Salerno Inc. understands and masterfully utilizes the strength of white in bath design. From traditional to transitional, Peter Salerno and his design team bring the beauty of white to life in their award-winning bath designs. (And when you’ve won more national design awards than any firm in North America since 2002, you’re an expert to trust!)

The Peter Salerno Inc. bath designs featured in this article are prime examples of how to properly utilize white as a “statement neutral” in your bath design. Of course, going “full white” as a color design scheme is generally doomed to fail.

So how does an expert designer like Peter Salerno, CMKBD, utilize such large amounts of white in his award-winning bath designs while still maintaining that “WOW” factor his clients desire? Here are a few tips from a master designer and his team.

Even the brightest of bath designs needs contrast. In the Peter Salerno Inc. bath designs featured in this piece, notice the utilization of rich wood grains in the feature cabinetry and islands. We love the gorgeous center cherry wood island in the top bath design, as well as the dark wood grains of the custom cabinetry and tables below. The depth and texture of these darker wood elements only serves to make the delicate whiteness of the tile, paint, claw foot tubs and counters that much brighter.

Keep in mind that all the white paint, tile and counter spaces you implement will be augmented by proper use of ambient light. There is always room for statement lighting, but nothing beats the mixture of crisp sunshine off white design elements to make a neutral white tone seem earthy and welcoming.

Peter Salerno Talks Design Inspiration At NKBA + Miele USA Presentation

Peter Salerno scored with a well-received presentation about custom design inspiration and innovation at a recent NKBA presentation held at Miele USA’s Princeton, New Jersey Experience Center.

Peter Salerno, CMKBD, is the owner and founder of Peter Salerno Inc., the most award-winning North American kitchen and bath design company of the 21st century.  As the keynote speaker and presenter of an NKBA Mid-Atlantic function in April 2018 at Miele USA’s Princeton Experience Center, Peter’s “Where Does Inspiration Come From?” was well-attended and well-received!

Plenty of familiar faces were on hand for this NKBA/Miele USA co-branded event, including Peter Salerno Inc.’s longtime friend and colleague Mary A. Moulds, Culinary Events Manager at Miele USA. Peter Salerno noted it was ‘humbling’ to see such a turnout for the event, with many attendees taking the time to speak to him personally both before and after the presentation.

Peter’s presentation was accompanied by visual examples of his design inspirations, followed by each inspiration’s final creation. One of the more stunning examples shown during the keynote speech was that of seagulls drifting through the ocean air, and how Peter Salerno turned that image into a stunning kitchen design innovation – embedded LED animation of seagulls over crashing waves, displayed in a kitchen island countertop.

Peter Salerno also noted the warmth of his reception – not just by the attendees of the event, but by the representatives of Miele USA and the NKBA. It’s not always easy speaking publicly, but Peter and his team remarked how at ease they were made to feel at the spacious Miele USA Princeton Experience Center, and what a blast they had in general! By the end of the evening, everyone in attendance was sharing in refreshments, chatting like old friends, taking pictures and having a blast!

The event was a beautiful marriage of three stunning brands. When an internationally-acclaimed award-winning designer speaks at a function held by the National Kitchen + Bath Association, held inside a world-class Miele USA Experience Center, you know you’ve created something special.

We hope you enjoy these exclusive photos from the Miele USA and NKBA Mid-Atlantic event, “Where Does Inspiration Come From?”, featuring Peter Salerno of Peter Salerno Inc.!
