Happy Birthday, Gabrielle Salerno-Mayer: A Trendsetter Spotlight

An East Coast Trendsetter’s Guide to 2017 Style!

This week, Gabrielle Salerno-Mayer is officially two things we love: a true East Coast trendsetter, and a birthday girl! Ever since we started the Design Your Lifestyle blog movement, we’ve kept tabs on Gabrielle – her fashion, her work, and her personal style.

Gabrielle was one of our first interviews at Design Your Lifestyle, and much has changed since then. She got married, became an intrinsic part of a world-class kitchen and bath design firm, found the most adorable little Boston terrier you’ll ever see (more on that later!), and fostered her own sense of style. (Oh, and she has a little one on the way!)

But certain things have remained constant in Gabby’s life: a love for the arts, a keen sense for spotting trends, a strong connection with family, and finding joy in helping others achieve their dream home designs.

As Gabrielle celebrates her birthday, we thought it’d be a fun idea to look back at some moments, memories, and insightful interview questions and answers we’ve shared with Gabrielle Salerno-Mayer over the years.

The following article contains excerpts from past interviews with Gabrielle from 2013-present.

Gabrielle Salerno-Mayer: Professional Style

Gabrielle Salerno-Mayer currently operates as the head of Customer Relations and Social Media Outreach for Peter Salerno Inc., placing her in the “inner circle” of the most award-winning North American custom kitchen and bath design firm since 2002. (She also serves as Hardware Manager.) Being a third-generation member of the Salerno custom design legacy, Gabrielle has strong ties (and tastes) in the business, and shares memories of then – and now.

Gabrielle: I remember when my brother and I were kids, we would go to our grandfather’s shop (Salerno Kitchens), and sneak into the workshop. Obviously, kids weren’t allowed in there, so we would hide in giant armoires and cabinets and try not to be found. Sometimes we’d get caught and the workers would yell at us, but it was amazing to see how they would create everything. It was like being in Santa’s workshop.

Design Your Lifestyle: What attracts you to the design business now?

Gabrielle: I’m a visual person in general; I have a theatre and dance background. I like the way things move and sound, how they incorporate with one another. That’s why I love the designs here; my dad and the designers make everything move and flow together.

Gabrielle is a shining light of positivity, happiness and knowledge, and is a major reason why Peter Salerno’s clients feel an instant sense of comfort when they arrive at the showroom.

Gabrielle Salerno-Mayer: Personal Style

Let’s be honest. There’s nothing that exudes personal style more than your choice of pet. Gabrielle and her husband Brian have an adorable Boston terrier named Harper, who has become the unofficial Peter Salerno Inc. office puppy and mascot.  (Let’s just hope that Harper gets along with the newest addition to Gabrielle and her husband Brian’s family, due in July 2017!)

Gabby is a fan of understated class when it comes to personal style and fashion. Much of her wardrobe is inspired by metropolitan fashion trends, with a taste of Cape Cod and Connecticut seashore style mixed in during the summer months.

Gabrielle also stuns in solid color dresses, preferring to let accessories like chunky necklaces and statement jewelry and belts do the “talking”. She’s truly at her best in a simple black or neutral-color dress (see the gorgeous off-brown dress in the photo below) – it’s an understated elegance that infuses her entire look with confidence and timeless style.

Gabrielle Salerno-Mayer: Family Style

The personal and professional truly mesh for Gabrielle at the Peter Salerno Inc. showroom and offices, and she speaks fondly of her unique work experience.

Design Your Lifestyle: It must be unique to be a part of the third generation of a family business.

Gabrielle: Sure – and I know it means a lot to my grandfather that three generations of his family are in the same business. I absolutely love when he comes in the office, and I can offer him a cup of coffee. His face lights up, and it’s like a really nice bonus for me. In that respect, it’s even more rewarding.

The most exciting piece of Gabrielle’s family style has yet to officially arrive – Gabrielle and Brian Mayer are expecting their first child in July 2017! If Gabby’s personal style and way of life are any indication of things to come, the littlest Mayer will be born into a world of love, joy and grace!

Happy Birthday to Gabrielle Salerno-Mayer!

Peter Salerno Inc. Celebrates Gabrielle’s Birthday

We like to occasionally take a moment on the official Peter Salerno Inc. blog to let you get a “little personal”. Following the business and professional exploits of the most award-winning North American design firm since 2000 is wonderful, but we also feel it’s important you get to know Peter Salerno and his team on a more personal level. (After all, if you’re going to trust someone with the design of your living space, you should trust him/her as a person as well!)

It’s with this sentiment that we take time out to wish a very happy birthday to Gabrielle, Peter Salerno’s daughter and the head of Customer Relations and Social Media Outreach for Peter Salerno Inc. Gabrielle is a shining light of positivity, happiness and knowledge, and is a major reason why Peter Salerno’s clients feel an instant sense of comfort when they arrive at the showroom.

While Gabrielle has been an official part of Peter Salerno Inc. since 2013, her memories in Salerno family workshops and design studios go back to her childhood. “I remember when my brother and I were kids, we would go to our grandfather’s shop (Salerno Kitchens), and sneak into the workshop,” Gabrielle recalled. “Obviously, kids weren’t allowed in there, so we would hide in giant armoires and cabinets and try not to be found. Sometimes we’d get caught and the workers would yell at us, but it was amazing to see how they would create everything. It was like being in Santa’s workshop.”

Gabrielle’s sense of family history is evident, and her love for her family shone through in a past blog interview on behalf of Peter Salerno Inc. “I know it means a lot to my grandfather that three generations of his family are in the same business,” Gabrielle explained. “I absolutely love when he comes in the office, and I can offer him a cup of coffee. His face lights up, and it’s like a really nice bonus for me. In that respect, it’s even more rewarding.”

We love you Gabrielle, and wish you the happiest of birthdays!

Peter Salerno Inc. Staff Brings Thanksgiving Donation to NJ Church

It is a Thanksgiving tradition for the staff of Peter Salerno Inc. to donate turkeys to a local church in northern New Jersey. 2015 is no exception, as the Peter Salerno turkey tradition made its way to the next generation of the Salerno family.

Gabrielle Salerno-Mayer (Peter’s daughter) and Peter Salerno Inc. staff member Nadya Barkovskaya purchased and donated 60 Thanksgiving turkeys – just in time for the holidays. The donation was coordinated by Fran Blackgrove and the wonderful staff at St. Andrew’s Church of Westwood, New Jersey.

It was a fulfilling day for Gabrielle and Nadya; the opportunity to give back to the community is something that Peter Salerno, his family and staff treasure. It was exceptionally wonderful to partner with St. Andrew’s Church, where both of Peter’s children were baptized and married.

Enjoy the photos from Gabrielle and Nadya’s donation day!

Peter Salerno, his family and staff encourage you to join in the effort to ensure everyone has a happy Thanksgiving in 2015. Whether you can donate one turkey or 100, a gently used blanket or coat, or just a warm handshake or embrace, please give what you can to those less fortunate.

But hey, our office puppy Harper just had a birthday! (Of course, this means everything stops for an afternoon – Peter’s daughter and office manager Gabrielle wouldn’t have it any other way!)

We first introduced you to adorable little Harper late last year, and since then the office has fallen in love with her. 3 parts adorable, 2 parts troublemaker and all parts love-bug, Harper makes Peter Salerno’s already cheerful office that much brighter!

Leave your birthday wishes for Harper in the comments, and leave pictures of your favorite office pets as well – we’d love to see them!

There’s a lot of wonderful, fulfilling custom kitchen and bath design work to be done before 2015 is over. But for a moment, let’s all take time out to wish Harper a happy birthday!

We Love and Honor Father Jim Kelly!

It is a rare gift in life to know someone who is not flesh and blood but that you still consider family. For Peter Salerno and his family, Father Jim Kelly is one of these special treasures.

Throughout much of Peter and Tracy Salerno’s lives, Father Jim Kelly has been a part of their “extended family”. From spiritual guidance and personal companionship, to religious services and heart-to-heart conversations, Father Jim has been an integral figure in the lives of the Salerno family. Father Jim and Peter, along with other friends, worked in Zimbabwe during the HIV/AIDS pandemic. It was an eye- and heart-opening experience for all involved.

More recently, Father Jim has presided over the weddings of both of Peter and Tracy’s children, as Anthony married his wife Eve and Gabrielle married her husband Bryan. He has also been a constant comfort through more difficult times, such as a recent passing in the Salerno family.

Through good times and difficult ones, celebrations and solemn occasions, Peter Salerno and his family have received the greatest of guidance, love and friendship from Father Jim Kelly. Always ready with a warm embrace, a clever joke or timely advice, those who know Father Jim know him to be a man of joy.

It is with pride, honor and a great deal of love that Peter, Tracy, and the entire Salerno family celebrate Father Jim Kelly and his 50 years of service to the church. Thank you, Father Jim, for being such a dear part of our lives.

Here’s to the continuation of a wonderful journey and friendship!

Peter Salerno Inc. and Office Puppy Harper Present: Tips To Stay Warm!

Peter Salerno Inc. and Office Puppy Harper Present: Tips To Stay Warm!

A few weeks ago, we introduced you to Harper, the official “office puppy” of Peter Salerno Inc. If you visit the award-winning Peter Salerno Inc. showroom at 511 Goffle Road in Wyckoff, New Jersey, chances are you’ll bump into this adorable little Boston Terrier and she’ll help make your day even better than it already is!

At Peter Salerno Inc., we aim to help you live the life you’ve always imagined, in the home of your dreams. With that in mind, we thought our helpful little Harper should pass along her tips to stay warm in the record-setting cold of the Winter of 2015!

Tips to Stay Warm: featuring Peter Salerno Inc.’s Office Puppy Harper!

1. Bed position is important. Your bed will automatically become colder if any of its sides is touching an exterior wall of your home. (It’s common sense, but it’s easy to overlook!) If you want to stay nice and toasty in your bed, make sure it’s against an interior wall. If you love the way it looks near that exterior wall of yours, make sure to leave a few inches of space.

2. Stay active! It may feel natural to curl up on the couch under a ton of blankets, but staying active helps your circulation and metabolism – both of which will help regulate your body temperature and keep you nice and warm this winter. Of course, Harper likes to stay active by accumulating as many toys to play with as possible!

3. Turn on the ceiling fan (on LOW). Yes, this seems counterproductive, but trust us! Warm air rises – so by turning your ceiling fan on its lowest setting, you will be circulating nice, warm air from your heater around the whole house, not letting it languish up near the ceiling where you can’t feel it.

4. If all else fails, snuggle up with a friend and take a nice, warm nap!
