Five Essential Items for Your Man Cave Design [PHOTOS]

Five Essential Items for Your Man Cave Design [PHOTOS]

There’s nothing quite like throwing a party in your custom-designed, world-class man cave.

Wait – what’s that? You don’t have the world’s best man cave? No problem. You don’t need a walk-in humidor, a hand-crafted wine cellar or custom-built leather recliners to have a great “man cave” to make your friends drool.

What you do need are a few helpful tips from Peter Salerno, the creator of “Man Cave Classics”one of the world’s foremost interior designers and recipient of an unprecedented 23 NKBA design awards over the last decade.

With these five helpful tips, you can transform your den or media room into a man cave so amazing, your friends will drool with envy. (Then, your only problem will be getting them to leave after the party’s over!)

5 Tips to Create an Awesome Man Cave

1. Make your bar unique, eye-popping and memorable.

This tip is a Peter Salerno specialty. Don’t believe us? Take a look at this 1959 Corvette that Peter transformed into the most amazing bar in the world:

All it takes is a little creativity and a personal touch. Take something you’re passionate about and use it as the basis for your very own custom-built bar. (And if you need some assistance, Peter Salerno and his team will be glad to help you design the bar of your dreams!)

2. Make sure you have plenty of comfortable seating.

Your man cave should be a place to hang out, crash and relax. Make sure there’s plenty of space and seating for you and your buddies to lounge around without feeling cramped or uncomfortable.

You don’t have to spend a fortune on recliners and sectional sofas – just make sure that there’s at least one more seat than the amount of guests you expect (just in case someone brings a friend). Oh, and as far as your own seat? Make sure you designate a chair of your own – every master of a man cave should have his favorite place to sit!

3. Make the decor personal to you.

When you think of a prototypical man cave, a few things instantly come to mind: animal heads mounted on the wall, tacky bearskin rugs, and so on. Don’t go the conventional, “over done” route – make your man cave your very own!

A great idea is to personalize the decor in your man cave with items, art and designs that showcase who you are and what your life is all about. For example, Peter Salerno designed one of his man caves with a professional graffiti artist, who “tagged” the walls with an awesome city skyline as well as the initials and names of his family, friends and loved ones.

4. Offer more entertainment options than just TV.

At some point, guests to your man cave will want to do something other than sit around and watch TV. At this point, you need other forms of entertainment to keep them occupied. Peter Salerno and his team suggest a form of physical activity: pool table, air hockey, old-school pinball machine, etc.

Keeping your guests spread out around your man cave also ensures that everyone mingles, no one feels cramped, and there’s plenty of room for everyone to feel comfortable, relaxed and never bored.

5. Add the element of surprise.

What if a bookcase in your man cave hides a hidden door to your garage, a cigar room/humidor or the rest of your house? How about having your TV hidden behind a large mirror? Or perhaps you could have secret shelving units for your liquor, games, or other man cave “treasures”?

These are just a few ideas to take your man cave to the next level. The element of surprise will not only entertain your guests, but take the “Wow” factor of your man cave through the roof. Imagine giving your friends the man cave experience of their lives, and then springing one last secret on them – how great is that?

These are just a few ideas to make your man cave the envy of your friends (and neighborhood rivals?). If you want even more great ideas regarding custom man cave, wine cellar, cigar room or game room construction and design, then you’re definitely going to want to contact Peter Salerno and create your very own Man Cave Classic!

Jason Cordero is a pretty cool guy, and a good artist to boot. His current collection of pop art, wall paintings, and mixed media artwork (available for sale) is a pretty sweet collection for any fan of action movies, retro gaming, or just well-constructed eclectic paintings.

From Super Mario to “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, fish tacos to one bad-ass owl, Cordero’s art is a tribute to “dude” pop culture. (Don’t take that to mean that it’s only for men – after all, we have a ton of love for our retro gamer and movie geek gals out there!)

Jason isn’t afraid to mix it up when it comes to finding the proper tools to ply his craft. Acrylics, markers, pencil, sugar spray paint, and meticulously cut stencils (some of which take 30-40 hours to create by hand) are some of the media Cordero utilizes to create his art. The resulting pieces manage to occupy the same “theme” visually while casting quite disparate imagery and textures.

From 8″x10″ to 30″x40″ stretched canvas, Cordero’s works range from modest to large in size and are functional in any “man cave”, rec room, or personal space.

We love the idea of hanging Cordero’s work around an entertainment room against light neutral walls, letting the paintings “pop” out around your gaming center, home entertainment system or video game consoles.

Halloween 2016 Style: Halloween Home Decor With Class

Halloween 2016 Home Decor With Class and Style

Halloween decor is a blast! Spiderwebs, pumpkins, witch’s cauldrons, ghosts and goblins – Halloween provides a great opportunity to turn your home into a spooky fun house for friends and guests of all ages.

The only problem with most Halloween decor is its lasting power – or lack thereof. Once November rolls around, there isn’t much charm to having spiderwebs hanging off your chandeliers. And your Thanksgiving dinner guests probably won’t be too fond of ladling their cocktails out of a wrought-iron cauldron on your kitchen island.

So for Halloween 2016, we’re taking a different approach to your Halloween holiday decor. Rather than pouring your hard-earned money into decorations that last a week, why not incorporate a “Halloween vibe” into your actual home and kitchen design?

We’re not saying to paint your kitchen burnt orange and install all black cabinetry, of course. But let’s think beyond the traditional Halloween fare! Here are some fun home decor tips that can be easily incorporated into a fall (and Halloween) motif, courtesy of award-winning master kitchen and bath designer Peter Salerno Inc.

Neutral Tones + Dark Statement Lighting

The home kitchen design pictured below is decked out for a winter party, but can’t you just picture it full of Halloween decorations? The visual transition is simple, thanks to a masterful touch on a neutral color scheme adorned with dark statement lighting and custom cabinetry.

It’s hard to make neutral “pop”, but Peter Salerno Inc. uses a deft touch to make it happen in this kitchen design. Notice the well-lit backsplash behind the range? That splash of brightness (along with the white kitchen island countertop) adds enough light and life to this neutral design to make it festive.

Smoked Mirrors + Dark Wood Grains

One could say the best part of Halloween festivities is the “smoke and mirrors” illusion of a great trick. Aptly, smoked glass and smoked mirrors are becoming a major part of transitional kitchen design heading into 2017, and make a great addition to a kitchen design update in your home.

The dark tint of the glass plays perfectly with darker wood grains and tile designs, while keeping the reflective nature that “expands” your kitchen visually. Plus, when Halloween comes around, how cool will that smoked glass feature look in your spooky home party design?

Stone Design Elements + Fireplaces

This early design photo (taken during installation) shows how large stone design elements can be featured – especially when properly bordered. Notice the neutral tone of the wall paint, bordered by white trim. The dark wood cabinetry helps “pop” the light gray stone of the fireplace and chimney.

Think about how amazing this stone fireplace and chimney feature would look as the centerpiece of your home Halloween party design! This is the perfect example of investing in a long-lasting design element for your home, rather than draining your resources into seasonal investments. This stone feature can easily figure into Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and other major holiday festivities.

Dark Wood + Vintage Furniture

Just look at this Peter Salerno Inc. designed “man cave”. Seriously. It’s beautiful. Aesthetic appeal aside, it’s also a classic example of how vintage furniture and dark wood tones create a gorgeous parlor scene straight out of a murder mystery dinner (or “Clue: The Movie”!).

The recessed dull red ceiling features interlaced with dark ceiling beams create a bold, stately tone. The roaring fire sits in the center of a magnificent custom cabinetry piece (designed by Peter Salerno Inc.’s Maestro Rosolino line). The vintage furniture adds to the rustic allure of this sitting room, particularly the bold blue-green leather couch in the center of the room.

Go-To Pantone Colors For Halloween and Fall

Check out some of Pantone’s most popular colors from 2014-2016, many of which lend themselves perfectly to fall decor and Halloween decorations. The 2014 Pantone Color of the Year, Tangerine Tango, is a spicy red-orange shade that brings a “punch” to your wardrobe or party decor.

Pantone’s Fall 2016 color palette includes Sharkskin and Dusty Cedar, two colors that can easily bring out the Halloween spirit with rich gray and smoky red hues. And for an “anytime” design color that truly shines in the fall, Harvest Pumpkin is a fantastic option for a warm, orange-brown shade.
