World-Class Miele Transitional Kitchen Display: 2nd Anniversary

World-Class Miele Transitional Kitchen Display: 2nd Anniversary

Two years ago, Miele and Peter Salerno Inc. partnered on what would become one of the foremost Miele transitional kitchen displays in the world.

On Wednesday, November 4, 2015, Peter Salerno Inc., Miele, and some of the finest representatives of the custom kitchen design, appliance and hardware industries came together to celebrate the exclusive unveiling of this spectacular new transitional kitchen showroom vignette.

The new transitional kitchen vignette was not only a showcase of Peter Salerno Inc.’s award-winning transitional kitchen design efforts, but of the state-of-the-art Miele kitchen appliance line.

Miele USA was represented by Miele USA VP of Sales Bob Fava, National Director of A&D Research Group Paul McCormack, NY Metro Regional Sales Manager Dan Gallagher, and Princeton Miele Culinary Events Manager Mary Moulds.

The Island

The centerpiece of the new transitional kitchen display is a stunning kitchen island, topped with a beautiful counter designed by Galaxy Glass. The thick glass slab is embedded with stainless steel mesh for a gorgeous, clean transitional design feel, and allows the user to opt between a soft white light or color wheel display option.

The kitchen island affords comfortable seating for three on one side and is adorned by statement globe lighting which hangs from the recessed ceiling. The recessed ceiling itself is a beautiful 9-panel design painstakingly decorated with silver leaf, and features seamless custom edge moulding.

The base of the island is an ivory white custom piece by Peter Salerno Inc., featuring the astounding Knock2Open Miele Dishwasher. Simply knock, and the dishwasher automatically opens for you – no fussy latches or slamming doors! The base also includes custom cabinetry work from Peter Salerno Inc.’s Maestro Rosolino line.

The Flooring

The flooring is a beautiful, durable faux-wood concrete which was voted on by you, the readers of Peter Salerno Inc.’s official blog. Wonderful job!

The Backsplash

The backsplash, provided by the world-class artists at Stratta, the Tile Boutique, was also voted on by readers of this blog. A seamless design that appears to be one solid pre-fab piece, it is actually comprised of over 250 meticulously set tiles.

The Feature Wall

In front of the backsplash, 4 glass shelves are mounted in front of LED lighting, which presents the illusion of pure white light streaming from within the shelves. A bold stainless steel range hood design was custom-designed by Peter Salerno Inc. and crafted especially for this transitional kitchen display by the artisans at Rangecraft.

The custom ivory white Maestro Rosolino cabinetry features over a dozen drawers. 6 drawers are push-to-open (to complement the Knock2Open Miele Dishwasher), with 2 more “hidden drawers” which border the Miele range in the form of moulding columns.

The Miele 48″ range and cooktop itself is a wonder of modern technology. It features a conventional range, warming drawer and storage unit, as well as a 6-burner cooktop. The range features a wireless roast probe which communicates directly with the oven. For example, if you want to cook a tenderloin to an internal temperature of 135 degrees Fahrenheit, simply turn on the oven and set the roast probe to 135. When the internal temperature of the tenderloin reaches the desired temperature, the oven will automatically shut off and alert the user that the roast is ready!

From bread to roasts, sear to bake, the Miele oven features hundreds of customizable settings to suit the needs of every chef, from amateur to professional. The 48″ Miele range also features a built-in speed oven which eliminates the need for a microwave.

The feature wall also includes a new Miele coffee maker that must be experienced to be believed! Below the coffee maker is a combination steam oven which allows user to stack cooking programs and save cooking recipes beforehand, where the user can seamlessly go in and out of cooking and steam functions or even use those functions in conjunction with each other. The combination steam oven also allows user to control the percentage of steam from 0-100% which is unique to Miele.

Each of the Miele appliances showcased in this transitional kitchen design vignette is constructed with the same look and feel- from the construction and materials to the display and functionality. Every detail is methodically crafted to provide a seamless user experience.

Order The Perfect Pairing Knife in Time for The Holidays

The 2017 holiday season is nearly upon us, and the perfect paring knife is a wonderful gift option for the professional or casual chef in your life.

We’ve been touting the wonderful EDGES Custom Cutlery line for quite some time now, and with good reason. Edges Custom Cutlery is a line of cutlery developed by designer Anthony Michael Salerno and his father Peter Salerno (Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer) to bring pro chefs and serious home chefs some of the finest performing ergonomic cutlery that can be offered.

EDGES Perfect paring knife

Since EDGES’ inception in 2015, the line of custom cutlery has been highly regarded by its buyers, as well as some highly notable chefs and kitchen artisans. One such review came from Mary A. Moulds, the Culinary Events Manager for Miele USA:

All I can is “Wow”! Where I am normally grabbing 5-6 different knives to do particular things in the kitchen, I was able  to call 3 knives my “go-to” for the evening. There was so much versatility and flexibility in these knives that served dual purposes for the novice or experienced chef.

EDGES Perfect paring knife

EDGES Custom Cutlery recently released a fleet of Perfect Paring Knives in time for the 2017 holiday season. These 4″ paring knives feature full tang construction and are entirely handmade by master knifemaker Aldo Bruno, with custom design by Anthony Michael Salerno.

Each knife is made to order, ensuring that your EDGES Perfect Paring Knife is truly one-of-a-kind, and unique to any other paring knife on the market. Each custom knife order comes with your choice of handle material, pin material, and color (if stabilized wood).

EDGES Perfect paring knife

In addition, each 4″ paring knife features an AEB-L stainless blade with satin finish. The liner material is Black Micarta.

This article features several of your options for EDGES’ Perfect Paring Knife this season, including olive and red stabilized wood handles and a gorgeous option featuring American White Oak taken from wine barrel staves.

Kitchen Design Spotlight Series: “Farm Meets City Sleek”

Kitchen Design Spotlight Series: “Farm Meets City Sleek”

In our first edition of the Kitchen Design Spotlight Series, Design Your Lifestyle featured a traditional kitchen with some well-placed modern aesthetic features called “The Angles Are In the Details”.

Our second Kitchen Design Spotlight Series piece focuses on a spectacular kitchen design photo gallery that manages to combine rustic charm with uptown chic. “Farm Meets City Sleek” is a lustrous transitional kitchen designed by the team at Peter Salerno Inc. – the most award-winning custom kitchen and bath design firm in North America of the last 15 years.

One’s first glance at this transitional kitchen design is bathed in white and ambient light, a nod to the recent kitchen design trend where whites and neutrals are used as the primary focus of the overall color design scheme. From the custom Maestro Rosolino cabinetry (a trademark of Peter Salerno Inc. design) to the kitchen island base, this kitchen is adorned with white.

Notes of gray and neutral complement the design, through the custom range hood and counter to the island countertop and wood flooring. One of our favorite aspects of this kitchen design is the the 2×8 mixed metal and glass mosaic backsplash over the range, created by the team at Stratta, the Tile Boutique.

The appliance features are a mix of the finest names in kitchen appliance furnishings: Miele, Sub-Zero and Wolf. We also adore the statement island lighting, a series of Exter 16-Jar Pendants from Pottery Barn. As an added bonus to the homeowners, that gorgeous wood flooring is actually the existing floor in the kitchen.

This Peter Salerno Inc. transitional kitchen design is reminiscent of upscale “farm to table” dining, with a touch of countryside charm melded into a truly modern kitchen design. We hope you love it as much as we do!

Peter Salerno Inc.’s 20 Years In Design: ‘Then and Now’ Showroom Photos

Peter Salerno Inc.’s Design Showrooms: Then and Now Photos

In our last two articles celebrating Peter Salerno Inc.‘s 20 years of award-winning custom kitchen, bath and home design, we’ve shown you photos from the very beginning of Peter Salerno’s design journey, as well as a look back at Peter Salerno Inc.’s 2006 Hurricane Katrina home construction to benefit Habitat for Humanity.

We thought it would be fun in this piece to show you the differences between “then and now” in terms of Peter Salerno Inc.’s Wyckoff, New Jersey showrooms. The original Peter Salerno Inc. showroom (opened in 1997) and the current showroom existed on adjacent lots, but they feel worlds apart.

The original Peter Salerno Inc. showroom, founded in 1997 on Goffle Road in Wyckoff, NJ, was a converted two-story home that became the foundation for the most award-winning custom design firm in North America in the 21st century. Above, you can see the humble beginnings of the Peter Salerno Inc. brand…

And below, you can see the design wonderland that is 511 Goffle Road, Wyckoff, New Jersey. Home to Peter Salerno Inc., Stratta the Tile Boutique, and Oberg & Lindqust Appliances, Peter Salerno Inc. is now a one-stop design destination for the discriminating home or business owner.

511 Goffle Road, Wyckoff, NJ: A home design paradise!
The new Peter Salerno Inc. showroom sits adjacent to the old showroom’s location.

Peter Salerno is the son of Rosolino Salerno (“Maestro Rosolino”), an expert woodworker and cabinetry designer whose trade was honed in Sicily. From the beginning of his career, Peter took pride in plying his own skills after those of his father, and can be seen hand-carving a wooden eagle feature outside his original design showroom in 1997 (see below).

Today, Peter’s design expertise has led him to partner with some the world’s foremost brands in design, including Miele (whose transitional kitchen design feature was designed by Peter Salerno Inc. for his showroom, seen below), La Cornue, Rangecraft, Sub-Zero, Wolf, EDGES Custom Cutlery, Purcell-Murray and TopBrewer.

While the original Peter Salerno Inc. showroom had its charm, the current Peter Salerno Inc. design showroom at 511 Goffle Road in Wyckoff, New Jersey, is a destination for lovers of world-class design, and a winner of the KBIS Most Innovative Showroom award.

Take a look for yourself at one of the design vignettes in Peter’s original showroom (first picture below) in 1997, followed by the current, awe-inspiring La Cornue master kitchen design in today’s showroom.

We love these photos, as a testament to Peter Salerno’s growth as a designer – but also for their similarities in custom design, small unique touches, and master woodworking craftsmanship that have been hallmarks of Peter Salerno Inc. design since 1997.

Peter Salerno Inc. Celebrates 20 Years In Design: Humble Beginnings

Part 1 in Peter Salerno Inc.’s 20 Years of Design Celebration!

We hope you had a safe, healthy and happy New Year! 2017 is such a momentous year for many reasons. For our parent company Peter Salerno Inc., it’s a time to reflect and celebrate on 20 years in the custom kitchen and bath design industry. From 1997 to the present, Peter Salerno and his team of world-class designers have created more award-winning designs than any North American company. It’s amazing to look back and see that a revolutionary design company had such humble beginnings.

Today, the Peter Salerno Inc. design showroom at 511 Goffle Road in Wyckoff, New Jersey, is a destination for lovers of world-class design, and a winner of the KBIS Most Innovative Showroom award. The first Peter Salerno Inc. showroom was much different – a humble-yet-impressive design center formed from a converted two-story home.

We thought it would be fun to share early photos from Peter Salerno’s initial journey into the custom design business, and give you a taste of just how far the Peter Salerno Inc. brand and team have come over the last 20 years.

Before it was transformed, Peter Salerno’s first showroom looked like this. Can you believe it?

Peter Salerno and his wife Tracy put their life savings into the initial Peter Salerno Inc. design showroom, and Tracy left her career in education to share in her husband’s dream of what would become a state-of-the-art custom kitchen and bath design company.

The original Peter Salerno Inc. showroom featured six design displays downstairs, with upstairs business offices. The joy of the showroom’s opening was shared by multiple generations of the Salerno family, including Peter’s father and father-in-law (pictured below). Peter’s father, Rosolino, was a master cabinet maker and woodworker who plied his craft in Sicily before coming to America. (Peter’s custom cabinetry line, Maestro Rosolino, is named in honor of his father.)

A true family company, Peter Salerno celebrated the opening of his debut showroom with his father and father-in-law.

At first, there was barely any money to put into advertising the newly-formed business, as all of the Salerno’s finances were put into the showroom and initial design projects. Peter’s first clients were obtained through word of mouth and recommendations, so these first design projects were crucial to Peter Salerno Inc.’s success.

Over time, Peter’s commitment to the craft passed down to him by his father and his love for world-class design and client-centered design elements paid dividends. Peter Salerno Inc. became a renowned kitchen and bath design company, winning 35 national design awards from 2002-2016.

Design Your Summer 2016 Lifestyle

Cultivate Your Personal and Home Style For Summer 2016

Summer is about rejuvenation. It’s about fresh air, warm days and breezy nights. The summer sun breathes warmth into your life, enriching your body with Vitamin D. It leaves you refreshed, invigorated, and full of new energy.

There’s no better time than the summer to cultivate fresh changes to your lifestyle, and the Summer of 2016 is no exception!

This season is about clean colors, comfortable materials and fresh, creative expression. Those trends extend past showrooms, restaurants and runways and into your personal lives, homes and experiences. If today’s trendsetters teach us anything, it’s that Summer 2016 is a time to blend the comfort of your past into bold new directions.

Here are a few ideas to kick-start your Summer 2016 lifestyle design:

1. Put a fresh spin on a familiar setting.

Whether it’s a custom update to your kitchen or bath, an updated “spin” on a classic family recipe, or finding a new section of a familiar vacation getaway, Summer 2016 beckons you to blend old and new in your life.

Don’t worry about throwing away the comfort of the past. Take cues from successful, family-owned businesses like Peter Salerno Inc. (the most award-winning custom kitchen and bath design firm in North America). Updating your personal style doesn’t mean abandoning customs; it’s about making slight adjustments to your routine for a bold new take on a classic design.

Then added shredded beef in a Chianti reduction...
Add a fresh ingredient and give that classic family recipe a Summer 2016 makeover!

Take your grandmother’s classic “secret family recipe” and search for a new ingredient or two. Go to your favorite family getaway and ask about the newest restaurants or attractions. Take one facet of your house or beach home’s design and give it a makeover.

Don’t say “out with the old” this summer. Instead, give a classic part of your lifestyle a fresh new look!

2. Go ahead – splurge on a familiar hobby or activity in a new way!

Summer 2016 invites you to reinvent an old routine. Love going to the beach? Drive an extra 20 minutes and find a new place to sink your toes in the sand! Take a passion to the next level and invest in yourself! That’s exactly what Anthony Michael Salerno (AKTI, NKBA) did with his passion for knifemaking: he turned a lifelong hobby into EDGES, a state-of-the-art custom cutlery line where each piece is guaranteed to be unique and hand-forged.

Take your boat out to a new location. Go ahead and venture into that store you’ve always had your eye on. Spruce up those moves with a dance class. Whether it’s sailing, shopping, dancing or another passion, Summer 2016 is the ideal season to splurge on a familiar activity and take it to a new level.

3. Find new resources and outlets for your favorite pastimes.

The reason that “old routines” become old isn’t because they’re not enjoyable. It’s because we get too boring in how we pursue and fulfill them. This summer, make an effort to find new resources, suppliers and outlets to make everyday tasks more exciting.

Whether it’s a new recipe or a new world-class Miele oven, breathe some new life into an old routine this summer [Photo credit: Miele USA]
It can be as simple as finding a new grocery store (seriously, try it!). Reading a book at a park instead of in your recliner at home can be a refreshing change. If you’re at home in the kitchen, why not research exciting new appliances from notable names like La Cornue, Sub-Zero or Miele?

You will be shocked how refreshing it is to try that new ice cream shop you found on Yelp, or finally going to that new art gallery your friends have raved about. Simple changes make a major difference when it comes to daily routine, and Summer 2016 is your chance to make the “everyday” feel brand new again.

Designing your lifestyle for Summer 2016 is about blending new ideas into comfortable settings. Something as subtle as a new wine with dinner or mixing and matching your work suit or casual blouse/skirt combination can breathe new life into a random Tuesday. Just imagine what a more audacious change (a new kitchen design, vacation destination or hobby) could do!

Professional Chef Testimonial: Why EDGES Custom Cutlery Is Superior

Professional Chef Testimonial: Why EDGES Custom Cutlery Is Superior

Culinary Specialist Explains Why You Should Own EDGES Cutlery

EDGES, the custom cutlery collection, is available exclusively from Peter Salerno Inc. Using the highest quality materials and a proprietary “hand-ground, hand-crafted” process, each piece of EDGES custom cutlery is a one-of-a-kind work of art.

Sovereign Promo Photo

The founder and creator of EDGES, Anthony Michael Salerno, designed the series of custom knives and cutlery with three objectives in mind: performance, handling, and aesthetic beauty. The ergonomics of each piece are monitored with pinpoint accuracy in mind, and early reviews of the EDGES collection rave about the “perfect balance” between handle and blade.

We could tell you so much about why we love this cutlery collection. But it’s far more important for you to know what professional chefs have to say about actually using the knives in the EDGES collection.

Miele Culinary Events Manager (Princeton, NJ) Mary Moulds slices a beautiful tenderloin with EDGES custom cutlery.

Mary A. Moulds is a Culinary Events Manager for Miele USA. Based out of their Princeton, NJ, showroom, Mary is a highly-qualified professional with a great deal of responsibility (and work) on her shoulders. The knives she uses in a professional setting must be balanced, reliable, and perform to the highest of standards.

When Mary Moulds had the opportunity to handle and work with the EDGES collection, she was instantly impressed by the quality and effectiveness of the various designs in the initial fleet of custom cutlery. We asked Mary for a testimonial about her EDGES experience, and this is what she had to say.

“On November 4, 2015, I had the absolute pleasure of working with the team from Peter Salerno, Inc. as they unveiled their new Miele Transitional Kitchen Display. This was an evening where some of the industry’s finest came out in support of this modern day kitchen & design firm to see what Peter’s team had been working so diligently on. While cooking has always been my passion and I have an opportunity to do this job I love every day, it is also a great chance for me to work in someone else’s kitchen once in a while as I get to experience new and unique opportunities.

One of these opportunities was at this event where I got the exclusive chance to work on the new line of custom knives called “Edges”, designed by Anthony Michael Salerno. Everyone knows that when a chef travels, they almost always bring their own knives with them because they don’t leave home without them. Before this event, I was asked if I would try out these custom knives and give them a test run. All I can is “Wow”! Where I am normally grabbing 5-6 different knives to do particular things in the
kitchen, I was able to call 3 knives my “go-to” for the evening. There was so much versatility and flexibility in these knives that served dual purposes for the novice or experienced chef. And at last, a chef’s knife with a petite hand in mind. That has always been my problem….finding the right chef knife that worked with my small hand size but still did what I needed it to do. And now, the fact that these knives can be made custom with a pop of color or blade edge angle degree, that will suit everyone who loves to cook or spend time in the kitchen. Every once in a while you use a product that makes you feel good. This was one of those times for me. I used a knife that worked well, but more importantly, made me feel good using it. I could not have asked for more!”
