UPDATE: A High-Rise Kitchen Design Installation on the NYC Skyline

Note: An original article on this gorgeous transitional kitchen design was posted here on September 9, 2019. Since then, the design has become a reality, with more and more reveals happening on Peter Salerno Inc.’s social media as the weeks pass. We wanted to keep you updated, and flash back to the original installation article – which has some amazing videos and photos! Enjoy!

The team at Peter Salerno Inc. employed a massive boom to install a world-class luxury glass countertop in a high-rise kitchen overlooking Manhattan. The videos must be seen to be believed!

Peter Salerno Inc. is the most award-winning American custom kitchen and bath design firm of the 21st century, with awards from prestigious organizations like the NKBA, Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Signature Kitchens & Baths. For this particular kitchen design, the task was at once simple and complex. The simple part: installing a fabulous kitchen counter from Galaxy Glass & Stone.

The hard part? Getting that luxurious, hand-crafted counter to a high-rise apartment overlooking the gorgeous skyline of Manhattan.

Team members from Peter Salerno Inc. and Galaxy Glass & Stone decided to hoist the countertop using the assistance of a massive boom crane, delicately lifting the counter up the side of the luxury apartment building. From there, the crew carefully brought the counter inside the apartment, and completed the kitchen installation.

The result was well worth the effort. The clients now have a one-of-a-kind conversation piece as the centerpiece of their kitchen design!

The beautiful countertop is laced with metal, then topped with glass for an industrial, transitional look. The counter blends nicely with the custom range hood on the kitchen’s feature wall, and plays well against the rich brown cabinetry, drawers, and kitchen island base.

Peter Salerno’s personal trademarks abound in this kitchen design. From the recessed soffit above the kitchen island to the clean, neutral color scheme, this transitional kitchen provides eye-popping features and design elements that transcend simple trends. It’s important to have a kitchen design that takes current design trends and implements them in a way that becomes timeless.

This November, Peter Salerno participated in the 2015 Covenant House Sleep Out NYC, which is conducted to raise awareness for the homeless population in NYC and around the country. Much has been made of America’s homeless population of late, especially the issue of homeless veterans. This issue is of particular concern to Peter Salerno, who is a veteran of the U.S. Navy himself.

As part of the Covenant House Sleep Out, Peter Salerno slept on the streets of NYC on November 19, 2015. Peter is proud to announce that his group raised $20,000 through the event, and that Covenant House as a whole raised $1.4 million in their efforts.

This Thanksgiving season, take a moment to think of America’s homeless. If you are so moved, do what you can to volunteer, donate or help fight the epidemic of homelessness in the United States.

Peter Salerno, his son Anthony and son-in-law Brian recently visited one of their family’s favorite restaurants in NYC. Do Hwa Korean Home-cooking is located on 55 Carmine Street in the West Village, and is widely regarded (especially by Peter) as the finest Korean restaurant in Manhattan.

Korean food is often entirely different from other Asian foods and is said to be one of the healthiest diets in the world. Anthony Salerno initially discovered Do Hwa in 2010, and after several attempts was able to get Peter to visit the West Village restaurant. Ever since, Peter and the entire Salerno family have been hooked.

The ambience at Do Hwa is amazing – complete with tasteful Zen decor, Quentin Tarantino posters and memorabilia (Tarantino is a frequent visitor to Do Hwa, and a co-owner), and the occasional film projected onto the restaurant wall. On this night, Peter Salerno and family were greeted by co-owner Terrence Segura and his mother-in-law, owner and executive chef Myung ja Kwak.

  • Duk Boki – rice cakes sautéed in chili sauce with vegetables and a hardboiled egg
  • L.A. Kalbi – beef short ribs on the bone
  • Fresh watercress with a sesame/garlic/chili vinaigrette
  • Kimchi (pickled cabbage with a chili sauce)
The entrees at Do Hwa are outstanding Korean cuisine.

  • Deji Bulgogi – thin slices of pork belly with chilis
  • Lettuce wraps
  • Frothed egg
  • More kimchi!
  • Soybeans and tofu
  • Rice

Peter, Anthony and Brian finished the meal off with some freshly made sugar-dusted Beignets with a raspberry sauce.

Throughout the dinner the staff at Do Hwa made sure that no one was ever without a cocktail. The house specialties included:

  • May Julep

  • Ginger Kamikaze

Do Hwa updates its patrons on a consistent basis with a socially active Facebook page as well.
