BEFORE & AFTER: Kitchen and Living Room Re-Design Photos
Sometimes, a decent living space can become an outstanding one. It just takes a great custom home design team and a smart re-design concept.
Today, we’re taking a look back at a simple-yet-stunning kitchen and living room re-design effort from Peter Salerno Inc. – the most award-winning North American custom kitchen and bath design firm of the last 15 years.
The home in question had a ton of potential – it simply needed a better floor plan.
With an expert eye and a focus on an open floor plan, better use of ambient light and brighter color scheme – all while maintaining function and ample storage space – Peter Salerno Inc. set to work.
The resulting kitchen design and living room layout prove that strategy and planning matter every bit as much as other steps in your design process.
Let’s take a look at a pair of “before and after” living room and kitchen design photos and see how Peter Salerno Inc. took a good living space and made it a great one!
BEFORE: An awkward recessed “office space” in the living room…
AFTER: A beautiful wine bar and credenza opens up the floor plan.
BEFORE: A spacious but clunky kitchen island and bulky cabinetry…
AFTER: A more streamlined cabinet design, custom range hood & intelligent kitchen island opens up the kitchen design.
Welcome to another installment of the La Cornue Experience courtesy of our parent company, Peter Salerno Inc..
When one thinks of the finest cooking ranges in the world, one brand should immediately come to mind: the La Cornue Chateau Series. Referred to as the “crown jewel” of La Cornue, the Chateau is available in over 8,000 configurations, all hand-made to order based on your individual requirements, personal cooking needs and design specifications.
Based on the patented vaulted oven designed by Albert Dupuy in 1908, the Chateau Series provides an elite cooking experience customized to every owner. Utilizing the very best in oven design and a virtually limitless array of design modifications, you can be certain that your Chateau Series cooking range and oven is not only the best money can buy, but also your very own.
The Chateau Series: Your Personalized Luxury Cooking Experience
The Chateau Series is available in six sizes, from the compact Chateau 75 to the expansive, six-foot Grand Palais 180. The Chateau 75 and Chateau 90 each offer one oven in either gas or electric as well as a variety of cooktop options to meet the needs of any chef. The Chateau 120 and 150 feature two standard vaulted ovens in either gas or electric, while the Chateau 165 offers one standard and one grand vaulted oven. Finally, the Grand Palais 180 offers the very best in oven design, with one grand vaulted gas oven and one grand vaulted electric oven.
Each Chateau Series oven offers a minimum of six cooktop configurations (there are up to 11 configurations in the Chateau 150), ensuring that any Chateau can be personalized to the specific needs of your kitchen. From gas burners to French plaques, power burners to electric plates, gas lava-rock grills to electric griddles, the La Cornue Chateau Series offers versatile, world-class cooktop solutions.
The Grand Palais 180 is not only the most luxurious La Cornue cooking range and oven, it is also one of La Cornue’s most customizable pieces. The grand vaulted and vaulted ovens boast a powerful 22,000 BTU, and the Grand Palais is available as a full oven piece or as a Table Grand Palais for cooktop features only, providing maximum luxury in minimal space.
From brushed black to French blue, British racing green to antique white with flowers, the Chateau Series can be created in a virtually limitless combination of colors and accents. Since each Chateau Series range and oven is hand-made for you in La Cornue’s atelier outside Paris, you can be confident your personal design tastes will be catered to in meticulous fashion. And whether you prefer brass, steel or copper, your Chateau will come with the finest accent pieces.
If you wish to see the luxurious La Cornue Chateau Series for yourself, schedule an appointment to see Peter Salerno Inc.’s showroom at 511 Goffle Road, Wyckoff, NJ. The Chateau is the centerpiece of their showroom’s main display, and they couldn’t be prouder of the company’s fine relationship with La Cornue, Purcell Murray, and Purcell Murray representative Craig Kmiecik.
Note: Portions of this article are taken from an original series run by this blog.
Ever since Albert Dupuy invented the first La Cornue oven over a century ago, the company has stood at the forefront of cooking design, craftsmanship and innovation. As such, La Cornue has developed a reputation as one of its industry’s leaders, and one of the world’s most luxurious brand names in the world of kitchen design.
Our parent company, Peter Salerno Inc., is proud to not only offer La Cornue’s outstanding line of cooking range products, but to display four La Cornue pieces in our beautiful showroom – a CornuFé range, a CornuFé 1908, a Flamberge Rotisserie, and an absolutely stunning Château range.
Much of our partnership with La Cornue is thanks to the tireless work of our business ally and friend Craig Kmiecik, the East Coast Territory Manager for La Cornue at Purcell Murray Company. For over 30 years, Purcell Murray has personified culinary passion and provided the most exquisite brands of appliances, including La Cornue ovens.
In our opinion, the La Cornue product line begins with the CornuFé Series, the most streamlined and space-efficient line of La Cornue cooking ranges. Although your CornuFé range may be smaller than the CornuFé 1908 or Château range, it certainly does not lack in diversity, power, or beauty.
La Cornue CornuFé Range Specs and Info
Each CornuFé range boasts a choice of either one or two electric convection ovens, which provide seven distinct cooking modes. This allows the CornuFé the versatility needed to fulfill any recipe or culinary creation imaginable. The French enamel side-swing doors allow tremendous ease of entry and motion, and each CornuFé range comes with four interior oven racks – two flat and two dropped. In addition, the CornuFé includes two enamel baking trays and a trivet.
Each of the seven distinct cooking modes in CornuFé range ovens – thaw & serve, convection oven, convection broiling, convection assisted, conventional oven, browning and warming – covers its own array of recipes, foods and preparations. From the even-heat baking of the convection oven mode, to door-closed broiling for meat and fish, to simple crisping of quiches and pizza using the warming feature, the CornuFé range is versatile enough to handle the needs of any chef, home or professional.
The CornuFé range also has a French-inspired five burner cooktop that combines ample cooking space with unmatched power. The cooktop boasts a central, 17,500 BTU burner, three 12,000 BYU burners, and one 6,000 BTU simmer burner. As an optional extra feature, your CornuFé range can also handle a griddle on the cooktop.
Beyond the sheer power, versatility and cooking options the CornuFé range provides, the line is available in eight beautiful colors and three trim accents, which can be combined to match the taste of the owner. CornuFé ranges are available in Gloss Black, Matte Black, Pure White, Ivory White, Provence Blue, Royal Blue (the newest color option), Dark Navy Blue or Stainless Steel, and accented with Satin Chrome, Satin Chrome and Polished Copper, or Satin Chrome and Polished Brass trim.
The CornuFé series is available in two sizes: the CornuFé 90 (90 cm width, or 35.4 inches) and the CornuFé 110 (110 cm width, or 43 inches).

Is This The Most Versatile, Sophisticated Oven in the World?
The new Miele Combi-Steam oven is quite possibly the most versatile, sophisticated oven in the world. With over 20 unique program settings (over 20!) and 8 features and functions exclusive to Miele alone, its functionality alone makes it one of the most impressive kitchen appliances we at Peter Salerno Inc. have ever seen.
And that doesn’t even take in account how beautiful it is!
Recently, Peter Salerno visited the Miele facility in Princeton, New Jersey and was shown first-hand all the awe-inspiring features of the new Miele Combi-Steam oven. So we can tell you with first-hand knowledge how incredible this oven truly is.
(Scroll down for an exclusive video of the Miele MasterChef function in action!)
Miele Combi-Steam Oven: Features & Functionality
Miele’s Combi-Steam oven offers the full functionality of a steam oven AND the full functionality of a convection oven in one appliance. Beyond that, the combi-steam feature allows you to use both steam and convection technologies together, making this Miele oven the only appliance you need to prepare every possible facet and course of a meal – at the same time!
The Miele Combi-Steam oven allows users to pre-set up to 10 programmable stages in a single cooking process, adapt the moisture setting from 0% to 100%, and comes with an on-board wired roast probe. The steam oven, convection oven, and combi-steam oven 3-in-1 features allow for perfect baking, cooking and roasting results in any combination.
The oven also features an “XL Cavity” – in other words, the interior oven space is expansive, allowing for the preparation of large and/or multiple dishes. Complete meals can be prepared for multiple people at the same time.
Other exclusive features of the Miele Combi-Steam oven include:
Keep Warm Function (food is kept automatically at serving temperature for 15 minutes after program has ended);
PerfectClean (easy, quick clean-up);
Condensate Container (excess steam collection to maintain pleasant kitchen climate);
Menu Cooking; and
Optional Accessories, such as multi-purpose trays and combination racks.
Miele Combi-Steam Oven: Program Settings
With over 20 unique program settings, the Miele Combi-Steam oven is as versatile as it is efficient. The Miele design team thought of every potential cooking scenario when adopting programmable technology for this oven. Don’t believe us? There are settings for added humidity, canning, and even a Sabbath Mode for 72-hour preparation.

The oven is designed to look like the rest of Miele’s Generation 6000 appliances, and flows beautifully with the Generation 6000 Coffee System, Dishwasher, and other new Miele appliances. The oven’s Clean Touch Steel (trademark) is resistant to smudges, scratches and fingerprints as well.

Peter Salerno’s New Showroom Display to Feature #TheMieleRange
Leave it to Miele to revolutionize the way we see kitchen appliances.
When Peter Salerno and the Peter Salerno Inc. family decided to update their award-winning showroom with a new transitional kitchen design vignette, there was only one choice for the range to be featured: the flagship, 48-inch range from Miele. It’s a range so incredible, Miele is comfortable referring to it simply as “The Miele Range”.
As the reigning Most Innovative Small Showroom in North America (awarded by KBIS and the NKBA), Peter Salerno Inc. has an obligation to present new, innovative and outstanding designs, appliances and technology in its Wyckoff, New Jersey showroom. When Peter Salerno saw the Miele flagship 48″ range in person at the Oberg & Lindquist boutique appliance studio, he knew it had to be featured in his new design vignette.
“I’m thrilled to have the new Miele 48-inch range as the centerpiece of our new transitional kitchen showroom vignette,” Peter Salerno said. “It truly is the definition of modern transitional design.”
From the official Miele Range press release:
“For the first time ever, a consumer has the option to have one unifying design throughout their kitchen,” said Nick Ord, President of Miele USA. “Each piece complements the other in form and function and ensures consistent and professional results.”
The Ranges, offered in All Gas, All Electric, Induction and Dual Fuel and ranging from 30” to the flagship 48” model allow for the ultimate flexibility. Many of the innovations available in Generation 6000 can be found in the Range to create perfect harmony in a full suite of kitchen appliances. From M-Touch controls that offer effortless navigation to the ComfortSwivel handle that moves ergonomically with the motion of the user’s wrist, no detail was left out. Precise results can be expected from the M Pro Dual Stacked Burner System with up to 19,500 BTU and TrueSimmer capability and for ease of cleaning, the ComfortClean grates are dishwasher-safe.
The Rangetops, with 30”, 36” and 48” units available, deliver the ultimate in versatility – in both form and function. Featuring the M Pro Dual Stacked Burner System, users have the ability to go from sear to TrueSimmer with the turn of a knob. The M Pro Grill and M Pro Infrared Griddle available for Rangetops offer high power output, even heat distribution and constant control –allowing for the most resourceful culinary preparation.
The Miele motto is Immer Besser – “Forever Better”. We couldn’t agree more.
