A Look Back | 5th Anniversary of Angular Traditional Kitchen Design
The content of this article is heavily drawn from an article we first published in 2014. The kitchen design featured is entitled “The Angles Are In the Details”, from award-winning custom kitchen designer Peter Salerno Inc. of Wyckoff, New Jersey.
Fresh off his award for 2014 Best Traditional Kitchen from Signature Kitchens & Baths Magazine, Peter Salerno and his team went right back to work on a new kitchen design. This time, Peter Salerno Inc. provided a Franklin Lakes, New Jersey home with a gorgeous traditional kitchen design, full of classic design features, custom elements and angular details.
The traditional kitchen design, which is featured on Peter Salerno Inc.’s Houzz page, features a gorgeous expansive center island, custom Maestro Rosolino beaded inset cabinets, and a one-of-a-kind custom reclaimed tin hood (only available through Peter Salerno Inc.)
Here are some design and technical details about Peter Salerno Inc.’s latest traditional kitchen design:
The cabinets are Maestro Rosolino – our private line of cabinetry. The finish on the perimeter is paint and glazed, the bar and islands are walnut with a stain and glaze. The cabinet style is beaded inset.
The hearth features one of our custom reclaimed tin hoods- only available through us.
The countertops are Grey-Gold limestone, 2 1/2″ thick.
The backsplash is polished travertine, chiard, and honey onyx.
2017 Home Design In Review: ‘Farm Meets City Sleek’ Kitchen Design
2017 was, in the eyes of many, a transcendent year for kitchen design. From the rise of neutrals as primary design colors to the addition of traditional design elements to transitional home design, the world’s leading kitchen designers flashed their creativity and prowess throughout the year. The resulting kitchen designs in 2017 were some of our favorites in years.
With 2018 around the corner, it’s an ideal time to look back at some of our favorite kitchen designs (and home designs in general) from 2017. Our first stop is “Farm Meets City Sleek”, a tremendous kitchen design from Peter Salerno Inc., the most award-winning North American custom kitchen and bath design firm of the 21st century (and our parent company).
From the stellar use of white and brown neutrals to the statement island lighting, the custom range hood to the world-class appliances, “Farm Meets City Sleek” is one of our favorite kitchen designs of 2017. Take a look at the design photos, specifications and review, and see for yourself!
“Farm Meets City Sleek”: A Beautiful 2017 Kitchen Design
One’s first glance at this transitional kitchen design is bathed in white and ambient light, a nod to the recent kitchen design trend where whites and neutrals are used as the primary focus of the overall color design scheme. From the custom Maestro Rosolino cabinetry (a trademark of Peter Salerno Inc. design) to the kitchen island base, this kitchen is adorned with white.
Notes of gray and neutral complement the design, through the custom range hood and counter to the island countertop and wood flooring. One of our favorite aspects of this kitchen design is the 2×8 mixed metal and glass mosaic backsplash over the range, created by the team at Stratta, the Tile Boutique.
The appliance features are a mix of the finest names in kitchen appliance furnishings: Miele, Sub-Zero and Wolf. We also adore the statement island lighting, a series of Exter 16-Jar Pendants from Pottery Barn. As an added bonus to the homeowners, that gorgeous wood flooring is actually the existing floor in the kitchen.
This Peter Salerno Inc. transitional kitchen design is reminiscent of upscale “farm to table” dining, with a touch of countryside charm melded into a truly modern kitchen design. We hope you love it as much as we do!

Sub-Zero, Wolf, Peter Salerno Inc. Combine For Transitional Kitchen
This transitional kitchen design is so stunning, Sub-Zero and Wolf call it an “inspiration” on their official website. From the companies that transformed the American kitchen, that’s saying something!
The kitchen, dubbed “Transitional Elegance”, belongs to owner and co-designer Julie Ferrara. It was designed by Peter Salerno Inc. of New Jersey (winners of the most national kitchen and bath design awards since 2002), and features a stunning array of appliances by Sub-Zero and Wolf.
Sub-Zero and Wolf refer to the kitchen as the “soul of the home”, and it’s no accident their appliances found their way into such a stunning transitional kitchen. Clean and inviting, this open design beckons guests into the kitchen space with tons of seating at its dual booked-match walnut islands.
The ceiling serves as a “fifth wall” in this transitional kitchen design, with audacious statement lighting and a lit recessed silver tin section.
Julie Ferrara’s original traditional kitchen design featured gorgeous archways which were not lost in the updated design (as per her vision and request). As a result, the primary archway provides the frame inside which your first view of the kitchen is “painted”. That view includes a sleek, world-class exhaust hood and clean marble backsplash – not to mention the latest in Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances.
It was important for this kitchen to be as functional as it is beautiful, as Sub-Zero and Wolf explain in their feature article:
Since both clients are passionate cooks, the kitchen needed to have the best cooking and refrigeration products. The use of Sub-Zero and Wolf products – 60” range, convection steam oven and warming drawer, integrated refrigerator and freezer – allowed the designer to have both form and high-quality function.
Since 1997, Peter Salerno Inc. has operated with one creed in mind: “it’s all about the extraordinary”.
