Reaching New Design Heights: A Boom Crane Countertop Installation

Reaching New Design Heights: A Boom Crane Countertop Installation

Sometimes, the title of a design article is quite literal. In this case, the team at Peter Salerno Inc. employed a massive boom to install a world-class luxury glass countertop in a high-rise kitchen overlooking Manhattan. The videos must be seen to be believed!

Peter Salerno Inc. is the most award-winning American custom kitchen and bath design firm of the 21st century, with awards from prestigious organizations like the NKBA, Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Signature Kitchens & Baths. For this particular kitchen design, the task was at once simple and complex. The simple part: installing a fabulous kitchen counter from Galaxy Glass & Stone.

The hard part? Getting that luxurious, hand-crafted counter to a high-rise apartment overlooking the gorgeous skyline of Manhattan.

Team members from Peter Salerno Inc. and Galaxy Glass & Stone decided to hoist the countertop using the assistance of a massive boom crane, delicately lifting the counter up the side of the luxury apartment building. From there, the crew carefully brought the counter inside the apartment, and completed the kitchen installation.

The result was well worth the effort. The clients now have a one-of-a-kind conversation piece as the centerpiece of their kitchen design!

The beautiful countertop is laced with metal, then topped with glass for an industrial, transitional look. The counter blends nicely with the custom range hood on the kitchen’s feature wall, and plays well against the rich brown cabinetry, drawers, and kitchen island base.

Peter Salerno’s personal trademarks abound in this kitchen design. From the recessed soffit above the kitchen island to the clean, neutral color scheme, this transitional kitchen provides eye-popping features and design elements that transcend simple trends. It’s important to have a kitchen design that takes current design trends and implements them in a way that becomes timeless.

Watch Custom Luxury Cabinets Be Made | The Creative Process on Video

Do you have 90 seconds? Then you have the time to watch a master craftsman and his team create luxury custom cabinetry!

In this exclusive video from Peter Salerno Inc. (the most award-winning custom kitchen and bath design firm of the 21st century), you’re taken from inception to creation of world-class custom cabinetry by Peter Salerno, CMKBD. A lifelong lover of design, Peter blends old-world craftsmanship and attention to detail with modern technology, design approach and materials.

“I started in the cabinet business when I was 9 years old,” Peter states at the start of this video. While the claim seems audacious, it’s true – Peter grew up in the workshop of his father, Rosolino Salerno. Rosolino spent his career between Sicily and the United States as an expert cabinet-maker, and the love of cabinetry and design was fused to Peter’s being at an early age. To this day, Peter Salerno’s custom line of cabinetry is called Maestro Rosolino, or “Master Rosolino”, in loving tribute to his father.

“Craftsmanship is really the key,” Peter explains as you’re guided through a visual tour of his workshop in Wyckoff, New Jersey. “But you also have to make sure you have the technology. You want to make sure you have equipment that is precise.”

The delicate balance between craftsmanship and technology is on full display in this video. While 3-D modeling and modern rendering of the initial designs are carefully constructed on computers and sculpted by precision machinery, each piece of cabinetry is molded and finished by hand.

This level of personal and technological balance is necessary in today’s highly-demanding custom cabinetry market, where expectations are high for unique, artisanal work from reputable design firms. The home kitchen has become a place to showcase personalized luxury, the ability to showcase one’s personal life through the presentation of his or her kitchen design.

“These cabinets, these pieces of furniture… are now becoming art forms,” Peter continues. “And these kitchens are becoming art forms.”

We certainly hope you enjoy this short-yet-insightful look into the work space of one of North America’s premier kitchen and bath designers. What is your takeaway from this custom cabinetry design video from Peter Salerno Inc.? We’d love to hear it in the comments below!

Graffiti Bath Design: How to Break ‘Design Rules’ + Still Create a Masterpiece

Graffiti Bath Design: How to Break Rules + Still Win at Design

Throw the bath design rule book out the window. When it comes down to it, the only true ‘rule’ of design is creating something you love.

When Peter Salerno created the award-winning, updated Peter Salerno Inc. showroom, he wanted to reserve one space that went entirely outside the box. When Peter saw the masterful graffiti-style street art that would soon adorn his showroom bath design, he knew he’d found his muse.

Peter Salerno hired a professional graffiti artist to create a bold, vibrant cityscape in the bathroom design. From a replica manhole cover in the center of the floor to colorful depictions of a metropolitan skyline and an elevated subway line, the artwork is audacious and vivid. The inside of the bathroom door is even “tagged” with notable initials, names and dates important to Peter Salerno, his family, and the Peter Salerno Inc. legacy.

Now, before anyone panics – design conventions and standards exist for a reason. There’s no reason to abandon ship on everything you know about design. However – as with anything else – sometimes stepping outside one’s comfort zone is the only way to reach new heights as an artist, a designer and a creator.

As with many of the designs we feature, the true beauty of this graffiti art bath design is in its personalization. As the years have passed at the Peter Salerno Inc. showroom, the ‘tags’ on the bathroom door have filled in – with new staff members, new husbands and wives, children and grandchildren. A simple door has become a living testimonial to the Peter Salerno Inc. design family as well as Peter’s own family.

It’s important to respect your personal legacy and style while incorporating new elements into your home design, especially in frequently traveled areas like the kitchen and bath. Rich colors can still be comfortable and inviting when coupled with design elements that mean something to you.

“When I’m doing design work, it’s always important for me to personalize something,” Peter Salerno says in the video above. “I wanted to show the energy of New York City; I think that graffiti was the only way to express that properly.”

By stepping outside a personal comfort zone, a world-class designer was able to pay tribute to his family, his design team, and a city which he loves. How do YOU plan to step outside your ‘design comfort zone’ and grow? Let us know in the comments below!

A luxury kitchen design is more than the facets, materials and design elements that make up its physical components. True luxury comes in the personalization of your kitchen design, which begins with a master designer taking the time to learn about you and the people who will enjoy your new kitchen space.

Personalized luxury can be as simple as learning how you will interact with your kitchen, or as detailed as incorporating personal, unique touches to your kitchen design.

How would you wish to make your kitchen design personal? What elements could a designer like Peter Salerno bring to your kitchen to make it significant and special to your life?

A special thank you to Larry Gerin and the team at Hardware Designs for choosing to feature Peter Salerno in this episode of Spectacular NJ Kitchens and Baths. Enjoy the video, and leave a comment below!
